Sorry for the huge picture, but I think this is the way to go:

(Mod note: changed to smaller picture... the big one was getting cut off anyway. If people want to see the big one they can follow the link. -glibdud)

Pretty cheap, and much more compact than the stock powerpack to boot.
I may get one just for daily use here in the US.

Nice kit, jpnjim. However it doesn't look very much smaller then the stock brick. Not small enough to blow 40 bucks on, in my view.

Here a shot of my euro-plug. As you can see I cut the cable and attached a new plug as I didn't wan't to lug around 2 meters of cable everywhere.

    Quick question for USA/Canada users
Is the mains power plug that connects to the wall socket 2 pin or 3 pin?

USA here, with a 3 pin.

That's part of the reason I'd like to get the travel plug, it's just a 2-prong.

The exact same model (well, looks the same at least) can be found at Brando for $23 + $3 for shipping costs : http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.p ... t_id=0929#

I may have an extreme fix, which means your suggestion is perfect :)

I have the possibility of a new job in Canada - go on, tell me the plugs are different to the USA, make my day :)

That's one super inefficent power brick.
    Input: 120W-288W
    Output: 30.02W
    10.4236%-25.016% efficency.

If Acer Aspire's powerbrick was a linear power converter, I'd be over pound kilogram.

Sometimes, plugs from the US won't fit in Canadian sockets. Some plugs from US use a thicking/wider blade for nutrual, thus it won't fit in the "cheap" sockets available is some motels, or even some hotels. I hope that makes your day. :p

Also a type A socket still exist in Canada, so your original EEE 3 pron power adapter might not fit in the 2 prong wall socket. LOL

Actually, canada and US are the same, canadian also has a polarized plug and canadians don't really use the 2 prong socket anymore.

I've used this one on several trips and it is the best in my book:
    http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-33117- ... 578&sr=1-3

its a Kensington brand, and its quite a clever design, you just push out whatever set of plugs are used in the country you are in and bob's your uncle. No extra bits to lose, or break. Very reasonable price considering how many countries it works in.

Is such a three prong connector universal? As in, I wouldn't need to get a specific Acer cable to be able to plug it in in Holland? I've never seen one before... it'd be nice to not have to use the converter plug thing...

Here in the UK i have adapted my power supply to use the 2 pin euro connector cable which is much more common in europe this also saves having to carry round the very large cable thats supplied with the one i got my one from maplin and im sure it will be available other places.

Heres the link to the connector i got

hmm the brick itself says 100-240 but the plug that goes into the wall has a sticker that says 125v 7a

does that mean the brick is universal but the wall cord is 125v only?

With a good adaptor, it should work pretty much anywhere within the specified voltage range.
However, I do note that quite a lot of these adaptors do not have the ground/earth connection that is recommended on the power supply.

just in case anyone was needing confirmation and as a way of introduction to the forum, im currently travelling in Asia (seoul, taegu, busan, beijing, shanghai, and hefei) and the power cord works in all of those places. and as pfc369 has said, it seems that China has adapted their outlets to basically accept any and all types of wall socket plugs. That my friends, is innovation.
