Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced usb dvd drive that I can use on my Acer Aspire One. A DVD writer is not necesarily required.

depends on the software... some you should be able to copy to flash drive, others you can run using a a fakecd type emulator like daemon tools.

sometimes it's just easier to have the disc available though...

What I do is I had a 5-1/4 external USB enclosure lying around that I was using for a hard drive. I yanked the hard drive out and threw a desktop DVD burner in there. Works like a charm. I nuked the entire hard drive (including restore partition), and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP OEM via the USB DVD Drive. I also use this drive with Nero to rip CD and DVD software, and use Daemon Tools to mount it.
