I am going to Spain and Italy on Monday 8/17 and I need to know if I can plug my Acer netbook directly into a 220 plug (with an adaptor) in Spain. The "brick" on my power cord says that the computer takes 100 to 240 volts. I called Acer direct and they would not tell me I could plug the computer into the wall directly without frying it.

I can use a step down transformer which will convert 220 to 110 if I have to.

Others have said that most new computers will automatically adjust to the voltage and there is no problem.

Please help if you can. I need my computer in Europe and don't want to fry it.

Thanks for a quick response. This is my first post to this Board. I didn't know you existed. I can assure you, I'll be back.

My power brick says: "Input: 100-240V-1A 50-60Hz". So if your's says that too, you'll only need an adapter, and you're good to go.....

I don't think there hasn't been much of anything, in the last 10 years, that won't take any voltage from 100 to 240. You will just need a plug adapter to fit the US style plug.

The switchmode PSU that came with your Aspire One works fine in Europe. It covers 110-240 volts AC for the input. The only thing you need is a converterplug from the rectangular two pronged US plug, to the european round two pronged plug used in Spain, and most other continental European countries.
You can also just go into the first PC or Radio/Tv store you see after arriving in Spain, and get a cable for the PSU with the european plug in the end. Fortunately the PSU's use a standard plug for the cable.
