I want to produce a cut-down version of XP for installation on my minimum AspireOne, but I note that XPlite modifies the resident OS on my desktop which I don't wish to change. Is there some way that XPlite could operate on a stand-alone copy of XP with the aim of producing a much smaller version for transfer to my notebook?

nLite can be used with an original XP install disk along with SP3 and any drivers you need to build a stripped version that can then be installed.

on your hard disk. You copy the contents of the XP CD, then run nlite on the folder to remove components. It rebuilds the installation files to suit how you wanted it, then you can build an ISO which you write to CD to install with.

I'm interested in installing XPlite on my Aspire One in order to strip down the factory install of Windows. Has anyone tried it? I'm interested to hear how well it worked and how much it affected system performance (and perhaps battery life).

The difficulty I found with XPlite is that it assumes you want to work on the resident copy of XP and I didn't want to risk damaging my desktop OS which is working well. For that reason I'm using nlite which works on a separate copy. I've got to the stage of putting the cut-down XP onto a USB stick and am now looking for a way to get it onto my One.
