I'm planning on getting a beautiful new AAO, and I'm wondering if games such as Half-Life or Counterstrike 1.6 would run decently. I've seen that Quake and Doom have run pretty nicely, but I'm afraid that larger maps would give the AAO a hard time.

It's made for windows so you won't be able to run it normally.
You will need a Windows emulator (WINE) to run steam, but I won't recommend you to actually do this because it will run waaaaay to slow.

Quake and Doom are by the way available in linux binaries so that's why they run out of the box.

So if I bought an XP version, I would have no problems with steam right?

Dunno about SWAT4, but Half-Life 1 should run fine in WINE and of course Darwinia has a true Linux-native version :)

I got steam working with wine, but every time i launch cs 1.6, the launching game window appears and then disappears a few second later. Any suggestions?
