    Hi everyone,

I just got the AspireOne ZG5 and had a quick question. I'm embarassed to say I'm a karaoke junkie and most of my friends are addicted as well- I have a17" HP laptop I've been doing our parties with, but thought this little guy would be PERFECT for hosting. Tiny, and light- what more could I want? Well, how about TV Out?? I asked the tech at the retailer and he assured me all I'd need was a conversion cable to go to S-video. After reading on this board, it appears that won't work with these little guys. It's looking as if my only option is to buy some bulky converter which sort of negates the reason I bought this (wanted less to carry).

I don't have to go S-video (that just happens to be what I have for my big laptop)- Is it possible to go VGA to RCA or am I still stuck with a converter box? We drag the karaoke to multiple houses and not everyone has VGA in on their Tvs- I'd love to keep this guy, but if I have to pack a bunch more gear to make it work I might as well stick with my regular laptop. I'd love to know if there are any other options available. Thanks so much!!

You must use a converter, not just a simple cable adapter. That's one of the only negative points of the AA1, in my opinion.

They're not very bulky though, particularly since you can now get USB powered ones that don't require a wall plug.

Search Amazon for VGA TV adapter or some such.

    Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-VGA2 ... 886&sr=8-9

With a little digging you can find them cheaper at Amazon and other places (Newegg, Tiger Direct, DealExtreme, etc.), that's just the first one that popped up for me.

Just received yesterday the VGA to TV converter from Dealextreme
( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15223 ), 35USD, free shipping (similar found on ebay, at less price).

Connected from AAO VGA output and USB (need 5Vdc supply), output by RCA to my TV, PAL system.
Good image quality for movies, not good for text, documents (TV resolution is less like PC monitor).
Possible to use S-Video output, also another VGA monitor.
Possible also to adjust position and size (H and V), bright, saturation and flicker filtering.
Max resolution tested for TV out was 1280/1024/60Hz.
No big differences between 800/600...1280/1024 (about quality of video image).

If the VGA/TV adapter is not recognised by Acer when connect the VGA cable, try to restart the laptop.

With display in "Clone" mode, video playback is delayed, dropped frames.
In "Extended desktop", movie playback on TV is ok.

Tested with DivX and xvid movies, BS Player on WinXP Pro SP3, 1.5GB RAM and 320GB SATA HDD (internal)
    ST9320421ASG, 7400RPM,16M cache.

Myself, I use a 25-Foot HD15 Male To (3) RCA VGA Component Video Cable and it works fine. I also have a 25-foot cable for the audio which goes to left/right RCAs... My desk is that far from the big screen. This way I can watch movies on the big screen with virtual surround.

did you have to download a special driver or anything? i have that cable and it is not working at all on mine... it flashes a very distorted picture every few seconds and then goes black... ive tried changing different settings but nothing...

when i use a basic RGB/RGB cable, it displays perfect on my tv... but not with this RGB/RCA cable pictured above... any help?
