Hey all, totally newbie here, with a pretty serious problem. My daughters video died on her Aspire One A0A 110-1598. When I first start it, it comes up with this really weird display (see link below) and doesn't go away. I've tried contacting Acer and have to say those people are freakin idiots. The system is under warranty but they refuse to honor it and are doing everything they can to not replace it. Their solution to the problem? It's a cracked screen, no other technical help at all. First of all the screen is NOT cracked, it is garbled pretty bad. I've tried removing the battery and starting from the power supply no help, I've tried powering down and left it overnight while turned on and then started up again, still same problem. I even attached it to an external monitor through the VGA port, it will boot to XP boot screen for a few seconds with a lot of wavy lines and then goes black after a few seconds.

Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Steve

I have to say, having seen the picture it does look like a cracked screen (and TBH acer dont' give a crap about their screens, based on personal experience).

However you stated that the you still have problems on an external monitor.

To the best of my knowledge, the AAO shares your primary system RAM to the graphics chip. Have you run memtest to check if the RAM is faulty? Faulty RAM can cause a number of different graphic problems when using shared RAM, although in 10 years of working on computers and laptops I haven't seen RAM cause your particular issue.

How does the POST screen look? and how does it display whilst booting?
When connecting an external monitor to the VGA port, are you able to boot into your OS and use the FN + F5 or FN +F6 to change your output properties?
Maybe try getting someone disconnect and re-seat the monitor cable inside the notebook?

Sorry to say it but it really does look like a damaged LCD, IF it is, then i guess it may be possible that something is feeding back into the netbook which is causing other integrated systems to fail, which could cause all graphic output to garble.

P.S From personal experience, it would be cheaper to buy a new netbook / laptop than paying acer to repair / replace.
