I bought my AA1 Linux version with 1GB RAM & 120 HDD two weeks back. I've installed WinXP Pro SP3 on it. Earlier my webcam was working fine, but now whenever I try to start it, it make AA1 crash with BSOD. Iam suspecting the video memory allocation in BIOS which is only 8 MB. However there is no option to change it in the BIOS. Its it the default and the only option for video memory size in AA1..?? OR CAN ANYONE LOOK UP IN HIS/HER BIOS AND TELL ME WHAT IS THEIR ALLOCATED VEDIO MEMORY AMOUNT..?? AND THAT CAN THEY INCREASE OR DECREASE THE AMOUNT. I even flashed my BIOS to version 3.305 but to no avail; the problem persist.

Or am I looking in the wrong direction.. if anyone has/had the same issue may kindly share the solution...please. :(

Yes, you are looking in the wrong direction, the problem you are having with Windows crashing are not caused by the 8MB setting for the video ram in the BIOS.

Unless you have changed something in the BIOS between the system working and not working, then the cause of the problem is unlikely to the the BIOS. It's far more likely to be a windows problem and you should focus your investigations there.

mine's also a AO110 version with XP SP3 as OS with default video memory allocation (8MB). did'nt encounter this problem. may i ask if you installed all drivers necessary for Aspire one? that could be a start.

    hi dirk,

Thanks for response. Yes many be I am looking in the wrong direction. I'll try investigating the Window then. In the meantime, I've installed and re-installed the drivers for Webcam and Graphic, but still no success.. the Windows still crashes with BSOD whenever I try opening my webcam.

At the end, after trying everything I could, I re-installed WinXP loaded all the drivers from Acer's official site except the driver for Acer Crystal Eye and its working perfectly now. But still do not know what was the reason. Anyway my webcam is working even with Picasa version 3 now.

Again the problem re-appeared. It was working fine after re-installation of Windows XP (Pro) SP3. As I told on earlier post, I didn't install the driver though, made it run on default driver from XP and it was working fine. But again after someday when I tested the webcam again nothing appeared. So, I installed original driver for Acer Crystall eye and now the same problem happened again, it crashed the Windows with BSOD whenever I try to open the Webcam either through MY COMPUTER>>ACER CRYSTAL WEBCAM or via Virtual Dub.

Any help please.... this is really getting into me.. :x

I had the same exact problem too! The way I fixed it was just by going into the device manger and updating the drivers for the webcam. :D
