Nope, not unless you manually delete the restore partition, which is hard to do accidently. Vista will simply be installed onto your old XP partition and the restore partition will stay intact.

awsome, hate the fact that acer doesnt include a restore cd, but nice to know that if vista doesnt work out that I can still go back to xp easily.

well, install went very smooth, only had to manually install the wifi driver and the touchpad driver (tp worked, but scroll wouldnt).

battery life seems to be a bit less, but it sure is nice being back home on vista

I'm very impressed. Mine is only reporting around 2 hours on power save with monitor completely dim. I only have 1 GB RAM at this point but I doubt that makes up for an hour of battery life. I also haven't added the fan tweak yet in the mod forum to make the fan less "on" than it normally is. Are you using that mod? I'm wondering what the differnece between your and my machine is. 3 hours is prime for me - 2 hours not really.

Currently I'm partitioning the HDD and getting rid of the restore partition to free up a few GB. Vista comes with a great built in partition shaper but it doesn't work right because it won't move or handle pagefiles/system restore points so I can't resize my partition the way I want. So I'm trying out a 3rd party app. We'll see if that cuts down on fragmentation and the like.

I am not using the fan mod, though now that I know it exists, I may try it! I have run the battery down several times over the past couple of days, and under "real world" usage, in power save mode, the least battery time I have gotten is 2 hours 43 minutes, and have topped 3 hours a couple of times with no video playback.

If others are not getting the same battery life, it's possible the 250 gig Western Digital hard drive I swapped in uses less power than the included Hitachi drive from Acer. Also, as discussed here earlier, upgrading the memory WILL give you improved battery life, as the unit will require less paging to the hard disk.

I have also installed Ubuntu on here in a dual-boot configuration, but have not run any battery drain tests yet. I'm still getting all the drivers working. So far, Vista runs much better! I am very happy with this netbook under Vista, though. Took it to Starbucks today, and got some nice comments on it. People are floored when they hear the price. ;)

So as mentioned, I installed Vista and am just loving it, but i have noticed that when i boot there is some text that flashes on the screen (after the acer logo, before the windows loading graphic). For giggles, I tried booting into the restore partition but that no longer works.

I am guessing that the boot sector has become corrupt. I would like to fix it so that I at least have the option of loading up XPH in case of a catastrophic failure with Vista, should I repair the boot sector using an XP disc or a Vista disc?

(ps, everything is running fine, just picky with the boot sequence).

There is an "unofficial" XP restore disc floating around on this forum, so I'd say blast that restore partition away, and make yourself happy. Of course, in order to do that, you'll need a more advanced disk manager than what Vista ships with.

I swapped my hard drive out for a 250 gig, but had one heck of a time formatting the A150's disk for my external enclosure. Neither the Windows disk manager nor Gparted in Linux wanted to touch it. The Disk Utility in Leopard was able to wipe the entire drive and reformat, but unless you have a Mac handy, that won't help you. ;)

If you can manage get the restore partition erased, you can then use Vista's disk manager to extend the partition. As far as fixing your boot sequence, use a Vista disc, as Vista handles booting differently than XP did. Good luck! :D

The only fan mod I see is for Linux. Is there a comparable mod for Windows?

hate to disappoint you, but its genuine. not sure how that would affect the boot loader being corrupt.

Vista's OS installation obliterates any bootloaders or MBR information, including anything Acer put on the drive to enable the Alt-F10 startup sequence. It's possible to re-enable it by making the partition bootable via a bootup into a Live Linux distro. For the most part, it's not something to worry about until the issue actually hits you and you need to reinstall the default XPH. I believe the instructions on how to re-enable the partition are already on the forums, so a search might give you the answers you need. I would search and link myself, but my battery is about to die. Perhaps I'll check again once I plug in and edit with a link.

    quick search for "F10"
    http://aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3054&p=20223&hilit=F10#p20223

I don't claim that I've tried it or it works. Frankly, I don't see the purpose in keeping the recovery partition considering an XP SP3 install off USB is about the same difficulty as installing Vista by USB. The only real benefit would be that device drivers are pre-installed (but would probably need updating anyway)

The latest Vista bootloader 2.1.3 doesn't run the text load sequence at the start and also tricks sp1 [do a search for it] ;)

I got Vista Ultimate installed on my Aspire One 150 1.5gb ram 120gb hdd 6cell. Its runnig pretty good. Its fast, but I noticed it may take a bit longer to boot by a few sec, but it shutdown so much faster than xp by 10times. May need ready boost on a raid 0 dual sd slot?

I notice that my battery decrease to 4 something hours with Vista Aero enabled from 5 something hours in windows Xp. I had to find the correct vista drivers/xp driver for it to work good.
I got it to playback 720p h.264 video smoothly too using the right codec. I also got the equalizer to boost the sound by double the loudness and installed 3d sound back beta with the r203 realtak hd audio drivers for vista.

I there, I need some explanations.

I installed Vista Ultimate, full install, not a Tiny or a vLite one and I get a very bad performance score compared to yours guys. I simply run Aero, it's not available. Is there something I have to do?

Also, I can't get my Lan to work. Wireless work perfectly BTW.

My AAO is the 120gb Xp model with 1g of ram, no hardware mods.

did you see what is the score in the performance test? should be 2.7 overall. If you have 1 in graphics etc then you need video driver.
