I just got my One - nice little computer, but nothing without my beloved VLC.
Here is my problem: sudo yum install VLC works up until the end, where terminal informs me about the following missing dependencies:
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13(GNUTLS_1_3) is needed by package libpurple
Error: Missing Dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by package vlc-core
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13 is needed by package ame
Error: Missing Dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by package libdvdread
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13 is needed by package libpurple
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13 is needed by package vlc-core
Error: Missing Dependency: libedataserver-1.2.so.9 is needed by package acerim
Error: Missing Dependency: libedataserver-1.2.so.9 is needed by package ame
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13(GNUTLS_1_3) is needed by package vlc-core
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13 is needed by package acerim
    [user@localhost ~]$

I no expert on linux - done a litte bit of ubuntu'ing - but never anything Fedora related.
What am I doing wrong? Is the any way to obtain the missing dependencies?
Just to be precise: Before trying to install VLC, I enabled "advance mode", enabled compiz and installed a "acerfand" deamon script (the fan noize was driving me insane) - have I ****** something up?

thank you for your quik reply,..
As I see it I only lack 3 dependencies:
    libgnutls.so.13(GNUTLS_1_3)
    libdvdread.so.3
    libedataserver-1.2.so.9

I googled the first one, but when I tried installing it, I was prompted by :.package already installed. I then tried installing a file by the same name but with "Update" in the filename, and I was prompted with: Unable to varify - could harm..bla bla.." Should I install anyway?
Am I right about acoiding files ending with _64 ? Even if it is for fedora 8?

    thanks in advance

Yes, avoid 64bit as you aren't running a 64 bit operating system.

    Cheers.

Thanks - I'll avoid the 64 bit versions

But what about the warnings about installing the dependencies? Should I just disregard them?
And is the "Update" versions of the depencies what I need? My system tells me that the dependencies without "update" in the name already is installed.....

thanks for the help so far...

Thanks for the suggestion - but alas, my troubles wont stop.....
When i try to install the fedora update on the page, the install stops and informs me about a missing "redhat" dependency.
I tried "yum update" but that didn't help either.....any suggestions?

No just "yum update" and it did alot of stuff right after that - "yum update fedora release" isn't that the same as running live update?
When I try installing "fedora-release-8-6.transition.noarch" it stops and reads" Missing Dependency: /etc/redhat-release is needed by package initscripts".....what is redhat? And I found this "Fedora release files Fedora 8 for i386" under the headline "RPM resource red-hat release" ...is that what I need?

Ok I did a "yum update fedora-release" - that didnt chanhe anything. It updated, but when I oncemore tried installing VLC it stil informed me about the missing above mentioned dependencies (exatly the same). I then went googel'ing and installed two of the three missing dependencies. I couldn't install the "libedataserver" file - I don't know why! I then rebooted, and tried installing VLC again, and this is what happened:
    [user@localhost ~]$ su -
    Password:
    [root@localhost ~]# yum install vlc
    Loading "priorities" plugin

    *ponders*

You know.. I somewhat fear the the running of " yum update" without anything else might just about have broken your system, by trying to turn it into a normal fedora distro....

Can anyone with intimate knowledge of yum verify this ?
