I have a Acer One I purchased a week ago.

I've updated the Firefox and OO to the latest version added Skype and added it to the "Connect" menu. All working fine!

Try as I might I have not been able to install VLC. I noticed that the old repos for this are not updated so I'm using what I believe to be the correct ones.

These are the command I tried. The first three worked and now report the packages are installed. The last install for VLC fails on a bunch (>10) dependencies.

    sudo rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fed ... noarch.rpm
    sudo rpm -Uvh http://rpms.kwizart.net/kwizart-release-8.rpm
    sudo yum install fedora-release
    sudo yum install --enablerepo=kwizart-testing vlc vlc-core mozilla-vlc

I'm not sure if there is something obviously missing from this. I'm happy to install a version of VLC or any xVID player as an RPM if there are any? I've not been able to get a video player working. If you need to know the dependancy errors let me know I'll post them.

I've just been mucking around trying to install things on the Acer Aspire One today and managed to get VLC installed under the basic version of Linpus Linux Lite that comes bundled with the machine.

VLC works fine for playing divX movies once you get it to work and the quality is fine (even playing from an external hard drive powered through the usb).

After enabling the XFCE right-click menu, all I had to do was:
    Code:
    sudo yum install fedora
    sudo yum install vlc
    and optionally:
    Code:
    sudo yum install mozilla-vlc

    Hope this helps ya

I have downloaded the vlc player but it then says "codec for audio format 0x6134706D". Reading the reviews, not sure if I have to go into terminal and type "sudo yum install mozilla-vlc" to resolve this problem. Any advice would be appreciated as at the moment I am unable to use the vlc media player.

Another query if anyone can help me please. Being new to Linux Linpus on my Acer Aspire One A110 Netbook, I have had a look at a book by Mike Mcgrath "Linux in easy steps". Would this help me with using my netbook and getting grips to Linux Linpus? Dont want to purchase this book if it does not cover the Linpus version.

    Very many thanks

    Angela

I have also had this problem and instead of VLC i have updated mplayer and insatalled smplayer which is a graphical interface for mplayer and it works fine you might have to repeat the instructions to get it working as did i but follow them by clicking the select all button and then paste them in to terminal follow this link you want the "OLDER POST" viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3770&p=25335#p25335
when it is successfully installed right clicl on the file you want to play and open with SMPLAYER it will play xvid divx avi file with no problems

Thanks for all the help with this

I've got a working VLC using the Acer installed but I had to delete vlc.sh from the install apps log and use the tip to manually unzip the acer installer for VLC and delete the line in the installer that deletes the codecs for xvid and quicktime etc!
