got my netbook back from bestbuy for warranty work. acer replaced mobo and hdd. but no OS. best buy says it has to be returned for warranty but some manufactures won't reload OS under warranty. and best buy wants 130 dollars.

this thing only has 4 hours of use and hasn't been used for 2 months. basically it's just a repair tool for computer diagnostics on cars. so i'm not really wanting to buy a dvd rom drive just to get the thing reloaded and probably never have a need for it again unless the hdd croaks again. i have loaded my own xp. and downloaded all the drivers from acer websight. to which only half of them seem to work now. but i really would prefer to have the original OS installed to factory specs.

i had acer send out the recovery disks while the lappie was being repaired. does anyone know of where i might be able to find instructions for loading these disks on usb so i can get this thing reloaded????? or if there is such a tutorial.

i have tried the conventional vista install method using various fat forms to build the recovery disks on usb. but there is no bootup.
i have also tried the xp method but there's no windows installation files to be detected so that method won't even build.

the recovery disks consist of one cd and one dvd for those that don't know.
