    Hello!
My webcam just died. In System - > Multimedia it appears to be all right, but when I try to open it, the window just freezes, although in Properties it shows “Camera 1”. Is there any way that I could test it using the command line? Have you tried to use an external one? Thank you!

Have you tried the webcam application under "fun", does it work there?

    No, Sid.
Both from "Fun" and from the messenger, it displays no image.
When i try from "Fun", it just freezes the window (till i reboot). I've made a fresh install severall times, from the CD, thru a USB pen. Still nothing.

I'm having similar problems to this. I can open the webcam application but it doesn't show anything in the window. I can take a photo with it and the saved image is as it should be. (is it the same for you paulolgnunes )

Paulolgnunes, to see if we have the same issue can you run the following in a terminal (when running the webcam application) and post the result here.

    Code:
    dmesg | grep video
This is what I get when running this command:

    Boot video device is 0000:00:02.0
    Linux video capture interface: v2.00
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Acer Crystal Eye webcam (064e:d101)
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
    uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC control 2 (unit 5) : -110 (exp. 2).
    uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC control 3 (unit 5) : -110 (exp. 2).
    uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC control 7 (unit 5) : -110 (exp. 2).
    uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC control 2 (unit 5) : -110 (exp. 2).
    uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC control 3 (unit 5) : -110 (exp. 2).
    uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC control 7 (unit 5) : -110 (exp. 2).
    uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC control 6 (unit 5) : -110 (exp. 2).

Does any body know why I'm be getting the uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) messages, what they mean or how I might resolve this issue?

I am having a similar problem and have posted elsewhere but received no response yet. My Linpus webcam technically is working but I can't see anything on the screen. I can take a still and record video, both of which appear in My Documents. This is presumably a reasonably straight forward problem and also a software not hardware one? The physical connection is obviously there but the user interface doesn't receive any input.......

    Help would be appreciated.......

These are my previous posts if any help.

Should someone start a new topic specific to Webcams?

I am having an identical problem with my webcam (Linpus). I posted but no replies.

I can get mine to work if I first go into Google maps, then start the webcam. But then the window borders go random patterns althought the cam image is working. Other than that the cam has died. Seemed to have first become a problem after I installed Skype.

I wish someone knew how to fix this.

I'm having the same problem. Here's what happens:

I attempt to run Webcam, and the following window and error message pop up:
"No supported video capture device found!"

Any help? Do I need to restore the thing?

Exact same problem as you guys.

I get the feeling there's going to be a really simple fix.

Come on techno wizards, Potter this problem right

    Result for the dmesg | grep video command;

    Boot video device is 0000:00:02.0
    Linux video capture interface: v2.00
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device USB 2.0 Camera (0c45:62c0)
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

My settings are almost the same for the dmesg | grep video command;:

    Boot video device is 0000:00:02.0
    Linux video capture interface: v2.00
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Acer Crystal Eye webcam (064e:d101)
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

Webcam doesn't respond. But as I type this, if I open a new tab and go to Google maps, then try the webcam, it works! This is nuts.
