my webcam does not work under messenger ?? all the menu are grey. Any idea about what i should do ?

    *** Problem solve for me:
i redo my connection without checking the "Use a Windows Messenger compatible service" option.
And the option are not grey under messenger anymore.

Test with a friend, Webcam work, and microphon work to. (some annoying feed back, need to adjust the Mic & speaker volume "not at the max" to minimize it )

Thank to every body who lead me to the solution !

    Re: webcam & messenger ???

Is this on the standard Messenger client?
What messenger protocol are you using? MSN/AIM/Yahoo/Google and does your cam work when you load up Webcam in the Fun section?

Likewise for me. Cam works fine for Skype, but the options under the cam icon on Messenger are grayed out for the AIM service, as is the voice chat icon itself. MSN never wants to stay connected for it to be relevant.

    Re: webcam & messenger ???

The Webcam features are disabled when you enable the "Use a Windows Messenger compatible service" in the settings.
If you go into the Account settings for your MSN account and make sure that isn't ticked, then reconnect and try again.
Other than that, I'm a bit stuck as to what it may be. Sorry :(

    Re: webcam & messenger ???

My mic worked with MSN when I first tried it, but recently it just gives static. Don't know if it's because I've installed/updated loads of things since then or if something has changed with the MSN protocol.

    Re: webcam & messenger ???

Yeah, using the mic with the Webcam by startuing a Video Call, I haven't got the 'Call a contact' option to work with a contact that's using the regular Windows Messenger. Again, make sure you've unticked the "Use a Windows Messenger compatible service" in the settings, otherwise you're basically limited to just typing to your contacts.

Click the speaker icon in the system try and goto the Recording tab to check that your microphone isn't muted, also to test that it's recording OK goto a terminal and type
    Code:
    arecord > mictest.wav
Speak into your microphone then press CTRL+c to cancel the recording.

Double click the mictest.wav file in File Manager to see if you can hear your voice, if you can the mic is fine, it's more likely to be a setup issue with the IM client.
