I received my 10" AAO last week and like a good geek I created the Windows XP restore dics and then promptly began changing the partition scheme and the choice of OSes installed. FYI, if you delete the restore partition and then move Windows XP to be the first partition, remember to change the boot.ini file to reference the new partition number or you'll get a hal.dll missing/corrupted error.

Currently I have 4 partitions with 3 working OSes: Win XP, Windows 7, Fedora 10 and Mac OS X (not quite working yet)

I'm not finding many posts about the new 10" and I suspect it's a combination of things. First it's pretty darn new, and second I'm more on the leading edge than normal. When I bought my 8.9" back in December there had been lots of time for people to post all sorts of things about it with the OS and HACK of your choice.

So what is the community going to call this thing to distinguish it from the 8.9" model in Google searches? If Acer hadn't changed a few chipset things slightly I guess it wouldn't be such a big deal. But at least my internal microphone isn't working under Linux and it worked great on the 8.9" with the exact same distro and updates.

I like the faster HD speed of the sata over my hacked PATA HD.

How about calling it a laptop?

Netbooks, to me, are sub-250 quid, small, handy, devices ideal for the odd surf, email, and bit of writing. Anything more expensive than that isn't a netbook and if companies bring out devices that are 350 quid and call them netbooks then guess what I'll spend the extra 50 and just buy a laptop.

Sony have a netbook at 800 quid. Tell you what guys, I'll pass.

I've had my (proper) Aspire One for 6 months now and I use it a lot. A bigger screen is irrelevant. If I want a bigger screen I use my laptop or PC.

I think Acer are about to shoot themselves in the foot unless it's as cheap as the original which I doubt very much.

I guess my question doesn't translate across the pond very well. I don't need or care for the definition of a laptop or a netbook.

AAO and AA1 seem to refer to the 8.9" model. Doing searches on AOD don't seem to find much about the new 10". Since Acer calls this new unit an Acer Aspire One as well it seems to muddy the waters when doing searches.

Guess I'll just go back to figuring this stuff out.

Acer support calls it a "D150".

I think that is what You are looking for?

If you get that OSX running. maybe you might want to give some others a hand. I am considering it myself.

I agree there is not a big modding "boom" yet for this unit. It is only been out for about 2-3 weeks now and most are still experimenting with it. I am still messing with my XP and win7 builds for that perfect happy point...

I have yet to see a How to take it appart tutorial. I have seen a few shots of them completely dissasembled though.

Thanks Plastikman. D150 seems to be what is starting to show up in google searches.

Back to working on the mac os x install.

To me, a "Netbook" should be compact & portable, so I can carry it easily when off on holiday etc.
Personally, I want something for less than £250, but there will be people who want more performance in a compact package.
I don't use the Netbook at home, as I have a full sized PC.

Compared to the laptops of the past this device is miniscule. I think it still qualifies as a "netbook" (unless Psion have their way).
