What does this do?

    37. You can delete "/Backup extensions" if you want.
    38. Launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and type "diskutil repairPermissions /" (without quotes) then press [RETURN].
    39. Wait for the permissions to be repaired, then reboot.

    Backup extensions are the extensions that were removed by Kext Helper. They are put there in case things go wrong and you want to put the originals back.

    Repairing permissions will start a process whereby system and application files (not user files) will be checked to see if they have the correct POSIX permissions and ACLs according to information in the /Library/Receipts folder, and corrections will be made.

    This is a common troubleshooting technique on the Mac, as incorrect permissions (for example, a lack of execute permissions) can cause things to fail mysteriously.

    You can also do this by launching Disk Utility, clicking on your hard drive, and clicking the 'Fix Permissions' button. I guess it was easier to give the command line instruction in the guide though.
