A shortcut to AcerVCM.exe is in my startup folder. New AA1, 10", Windows XP.

Wondering what it does. Can I safely remove it?

    TIA,

mmm.. lets see.. have you tried googling the name of the file??
I did, and the first result actually answered your question.

OK, I had done that, and the first two google returns (still today) are generic sites trying to sell something and looking like they are gratuitously spreading suspicion about whatever file you've asked about. I was not encouraged.

After your nudge I tried again, and did find useful info in the 3rd google return.

    Thanks.

When I used Skype for the first time (after downloading it) this came up in the Skype screen.

Mine did that also. Something like, "Skype is looking for AcerVCM.exe." Now it no longer shows up, and I don't know why.

I think it is software to optimise the webcam and mic for video conferencing software.
