lol...unless you're brave enough to go walking through like 40 feet of snow. Though perhaps the way to become brave enough for that is drinking? :p

Hummm. Am I the only non- techy person here? :D

I'm a graduate student in Southern History at the University of New Orleans. My hobbies include the outdoors, banging around the French Quarter, flea markets/cheap antiques, jewelry making, reading and other general liberal arts hippie business... ;)

I'm currently trying to learn more about Linux. This is the first time I've ever, EVER dealt with it. I just finished a google search on "how to find the run dialog", and I am deathly afraid of ruining my adorable, wonderful new toy by jumbling up the code. I am certainly not a tech n0ob, but Linux is making me feel like a cretin!

Lovely to meet everyone, and thanks for being so patient with my questions that are sure to come!

    Oh dear.
I am a police-officer in the Netherlands, my specialty for the last 6 years was fraud.
Recently i started working as a forensic digital specialist......i start my training for this in a short while, it will take a year of study, dual learning.
    So, that's something different......
My hobbies are motorcycles, and of course the digital world, especially internet and the possibility's of it.

    Digital forensics eh...
    Pretty neat.
Does a 35 pass erase really erase everything and anything?

And, can a burnt HDD be recovered?

Just want to know so when I steal some Ferrari documents when I work for McLaren, I can make the evidence disappear... :D (I hope anyway)

    @rory.
    nope at the 35.
there is always some restinfo, on Wondows anyway.defragmented, but with some puzzeling you can come a long way.
Linux is better in erasing data.

A burnt disk has to be dismantled, but it is still possible to recover data. It won't be easy though.....

Mclaren & ferrari........why not BMW ( or older LOTUS....)

Job: Director of software development program working for the U.S. Department of Education.

Hobbies: Fishing, biking, hanging out with the kids.

On a side note, I'm a walking ad for AAO's these days. I've shown it off to my customers and several of them have gone out and purchased some. We're now talking about using them in schools for students to take annual assessments.

    Cheers!
