Hello all, I am looking at purchasing a new laptop that I don't need immediately but can buy whenever a good deal comes up. (Don't mind waiting if that makes the most sense)

I want 8+ hours of use for lighter use and my use cases will be online lectures and note taking, videos, and IT work down the road. I'm thinking budget around or under $1500 but I want it to last 5 years or more.

I am getting the impression that ryzen will be what I'm looking for in the battery department but notice the ryzen cjips laptops in the price range bench much lower than the Intel 13th gen I've seen in a similar range. Any advice on which chipset/gpu combo I should be looking for as well as model that will hold up and last years would be appreciated. Note, this won't be a dedicated gaming laptop but I will do some gaming on it as I mostly use a ps5 for gaming.

AMD CPUs are more efficient than Intel 10nm CPUs, especially for new AMD 4nm CPUs

AMD new 7040HS CPU has 12 CU 780M GPU, performance is up to GTX 1650 max-q.

7040HS laptop will be in stock in weeks/months.

Consider Lenovo laptops seriously, they use LTS (Low Temperature Soldering), there is negative feedback about harware failures during long-time heavy-load working in high temperature.

Check out up coming laptop with AMD 7940HS/7840HS CPU, eg. HP 845/865 G10 (Memory upgrade is available to 32G x

Thanks for the reply! Will these chipsets also come with dedicated gpu setups and if so, what gpu should I be looking for?

Generally, if a 14" laptop battery capacity is about 56Wh,
8+ hours battery time means power consumption is less than 7W per hour,
laptop should use battery capacity very carefully

8+ hour battery time with dedicated GPU laptop should be bigger and heavier,
eg. ASUS TUF Gaming laptop (i9-13900H + Nvidia RTX 4060/4070, 90Wh battery, 2.2kg 15.6") in light usage.
