Hello everyone, Ive been reading around for awhile and have noticed that I cant seem to find anyone using the a110 8g ssd with other OS besides linpus/linux distros. Is it possible to use other OS with the a110 8g ssd?

    Thanks

It is possible to use Windows XP. You must be aware about SSD limitation and OS speed in this matter which is awful... You need to do a lot of optimizations prior to have smoothly working system and still there are some problems people have as they using specially prepared mini-Windows versions etc...

Ubuntu remix loads real easy, xp is slow , I find Linpus fast and easy, but limited.

I think Linpus is easy to use for beginning user. It is also easy to install, just put recovery CD, and next, next .. done.

I don't know why the speed is actually an issue with this. Yes, it's quite a bit slower when installing stuff (writing to the SSD), but reading from the SDD is lightning fast. I installed Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on mine. No optimizations or whatever you're talking about. It boots into Windows in about 10 seconds. A LOT faster than my working laptop, which has better specs than the A110. When I'm away from work now, I only use my netbook.

Recently installed an extra 1gb ram, now it's even better! :)

    Hi there

I'm currently using macpup foxy on my AAO...

Pro: very cool look (uses e17 & you can get loads of themes to choose from)
    fast boot
everything works well from live usb

Con: I can't get sound to work properly when installed to SSD
installing things like skype not too easy for newbie like me

I think you can run any OS on the AAO, but some will work 'out of the box'
    & others will need tweaking.

I've tried.. mint, ubuntu netbook remix, xp lite... they all work pretty well.

    Good luck

Just in case anyone else has the same audio issues with macpup foxy 3 hd install...
You have to edit the syslinux.cfg file in mnt/home....
    add "pci=noacpi" without the ""
I spent ages trying to find a solution & finally stumbled on it today on a forum dedicated to creating a puppy derivative specifically for the one...

    http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 847#256847

is one to check out if you want an alternative to linpus which is tailored to the hardware.
