I have again tried to install software to absolutely NO avail.
This time MIXXX. Previously AVG and Firefox 3.

I am getting very disillusioned with why I can only have my AA1 vanilla.

I do exactly what the (complex) instructions tell me (I am used to Win XP) but I always get errors, this time during the archive extraction process aswell as the command line stuff.

Can anyone help? Why so complicated? Is this distro wierd, or useless, or what?

I am a little p'd off with it.

    Philip.

Yes, and not quite, but close. It is also based on Fedora 8, which in windows terms would be similar to windows 98: old and not receiving any serious support anymore. BAD Acer ! BAD !

For Firefox you can use this guide: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/07/inst ... e-one.html or get the version from the Acer website:
    http://www.acer.com/aspireone/aspireone ... nnect.html

If possible, try to obtain the newer version of the official Acer Aspire One recovery image. It was offered on an official server for a while, but unfortunately is now only hosted through torrents and slow alternatives. Still, it is slightly better - and comes with FF3 integrated.

Linpus is ripe for the reject pile. If you have the energy to twist Linpus' arm and install Firefox 3, you might as well toss Linpus and install Fedora or Ubuntu. (But first, read "Linux Command Line and Shell Scripting Bible" or similar.) Either way would get you back on a well-beaten path. I installed Fedora 10 following Jorge's guide at (http://jorge.fbarr.net/2008/11/10/fedor ... spire-one/).
