what would make a RAM upgrade feasable?

I THINK i may have hit that limit for 1GB ram last night, but I'm not sure. I had 3 or 4 torrents going on, downloading iTunes, and IE8 open, and I got bogged down pretty bad for about 10 seconds. explorer froze up, so I had to close it, but afterwards, everything was smooth sailing again.

Anyway, it seems like most people get the full 2GB of ram just because its easily obtainable, cheap, and "just because".. but has anyone actually ever NEEDED it? So far, my little netbook has far exceeded any expectations I had. My "in-laws" (future) made fun of it because its "tiny" compared to my GF's 15.6 inch toshiba, but I'd take small size over extra weight any day. The online world says "if you don't have the N270, its a piece of junk". but like I said, I haven't had any real problems yet. Nothing to make me regret buying it anyway. "well there's no cd/dvd rom"... so? if you know what you're doing, you don't need one... CD's are old news anyway, its all about portable media players (iPod, Zune, etc.).. Yeah, the whole YouTube thing is a bit of a sore spot, but I've got my iPhone for that..

On a complete side note, I just realized that I'm getting quite a collection of electronic gadgets. an old dell latitude laptop, my 751h, an iPhone, and a crappy RCA mp3 player..

Windows 95 used to fill the ram before swapfiling to the HDD. 98 changed to swapfiling from boot regardless how much ram you had preferring to pick and choose what it considered to be ram worthy of just HDD worthy.

What does that mean now in the era of windows 7? That means you'll be swapfiling long before your 1 or 2 gig looks full. You really need it with multiple applications open or you'll start to notice longer pauses when opening and closing apps. Our netbooks don't take much to start slowing anyway so 2gig ram is simply smart.
