    Japan

The first Japanese Aspire One is XP, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, 3cell battery, blue or white, and is selling for 54,800 yen, tax inc. on preorder with delivery scheduled for August 20th. At the big electronics stores you get 10% in store credit back, so its closer to 49,500 yen... or about $460 I guess.

The Acer Japan website has a nice Aspire One section

    http://www.acer.co.jp/one/

with a list of about a dozen retail stores where you can get it here

    http://www.acer.co.jp/buyacer/?linkid=order1

of which Bic Camera, where I'm getting mine, is here

    http://www.biccamera.com/bicbic/jsp/w/c ... one&SORT=2

you can also search kakaku.com for the cheapest price, but note that most of those outlets don't give you 10% store credit.

P.S. The Japanese site notes that the special pearlescent coating on the aa1 is from the Japanese Nissha company

To complement what B3N3V3NT3 as said, the Aspire One is being sold in Portugal on the following stores (that I have knowledge):

    Fnac - Blue and White (White will be available starting this Friday);

    Chip7 - White

    Worten - Blue and White

Staples - Blue (and white?) - Could not find them online, but saw the blue (last one, for a second, uder a guy's arm on the cash register).

The only model available is the 8g/512mb/Linpus. Other colors and models will arrive soon (early August, as I've been told).

I'm told they were briefly in stock in PC World but have now been withdrawn. Any news on this? Not that I'm sure I would buy it from there, but I'd be interested to know why the stock was withdrawn. Rings alarm bells.

    Re: Where to Buy (UK)

    Hi,

I've been looking at this over the past week or so, and this is what I have come up with for UK buyers:

I have not included Expansys because they are the most expensive by far (as always... :) ) and have roughly the same shipping date as everywhere else (they are expecting to start shipping 15th August)

I am planning to get the 512mb, 120GB HDD blue version. Seeing what everyone's been saying about the write speed of the SSD, i think the HDD is going to be a better option. Already got a 1GB stick to put in, just need the laptop now... :)

Oh, and anyone who wants to extend the battery life, might be worth looking at this:
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... p&doy=25m7
well worth the £40, and I am deffinetly ordering one! :D

so if you want 1.5gigs of ram...

is it cheaper to buy the 512Mb version and upgrade?
or the 1gig version and potentially swap the extra 512Mb module with a 1gb one.

Its cheaper to buy the 512mb version, and then get a 1GB stick of ram, which would cost you about £15 tops. Think its about £14 from crucial.com

    Hope that helps! :)

JUST IN: Got an email back from Dabs and CCLOnline - Dabs are expecting a delivery on 06/08/08, and CCLOnline are expecting one on 19/08/2008. Hope that helps someone!!!

You're gonna want to get the 512MB version and upgrade, because if you get the 1GB version, 512MB is soldered, and the other 512MB is in the soDIMM slot. So if you go to upgrade that, you're just gonna have to take the 512MB stick out of the soDIMM slot and replace it with a 1GB stick. Unless you don't want to take your One apart, or if 1GB is enough for you, then get the 512MB version.
