The cost of the third year of guarantee is a bit over the top, £145 - I think not.
In two years time the Aspire Two will cost less than £145 to buy new :)

Yes, and probably in four years time it will probably be cheaper than that, but that's the nature of the technology beast, how long do you wait, and if you do wait, there will be something better if you wait again! :D

Got my AOA150 for free from my ISP recontract. Could have lowered my subscription but rather pay the same and get the AA1 to fidle with.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone bought from Play.com, and if so, were they hit with import duty? Orders over £17.99 coming into the UK are subject to it, you see. You'll find a heap of stuff for sale from them priced accordingly. Also, they tend to mark packages as "Gift" which smacks of tax avoidance, if you ask me. They are a business, after all.

There are plenty of them at Micro Center. The Asus Eees are sold out but the acer ones arent exactly flying off the shelves. For the longest time I was fighting with myself over getting the current version or waiting to get the 6 cell one. I went to the store like 3 times just playing with the acer and then leaving and coming back again the next day. I stopped going because now the employees look at me weird. Terrible, just terrible.

I'm an American living in Germany (Military). I can't believe the difference in prices between the states and UK and Germany for the exact same product. I put in a pre-order for the A150 with the 160GB HD and the 6 Cell batt and Win XP for $399 (200 Pounds) no taxes and shipping is free. You can pick up the 120 GB, 3 cell for $349 and the 8GB SSD and 3 cell running Linex for $329 or less. I have an American post address here so I don't have the customs charges. Why does Acer charge different prices in different markets? Too bad you can't shop in the USA where you Pound goes further. Heading to London on Wed for holiday!! Cheers!!

I think the price difference is due to simple economics. The value of a dollar is different and other country's currency is depreciated and appreciated depending on a lot of circumstances. Im no expert but that's as well as I understand it from taking basic economy in college. :geek:

Seriously though, there's no point in getting bent out of shape about different market conditions. Unless you're clocking up a heap of AirMiles on someone else's account and can make use of currency fluctuations, or the duty free store, of course.

A less contentious thread title might have been "AAO Best Buys where I am?"

He's not saying wait 2 years to buy it, he's saying there's no point in paying extra for a warranty for the third year (the first two years are free) because in 2 years time if you actually needed a fix/replacement you could get one for less than £145.

I went into John Lewis today and the 120gig linux one is £229 - might have to buy one tomorrow. Another shopper heard me talking to a friend about Linux and started asking questions - I did my best to help him avoid Windows...

The point is not to avoid M$ Windows, but rather to have the right tool for the right job. Let's face it, for some people and some jobs, that's going to be M$ Windows, whatever your personal prejudices might be.

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy an acer aspire one (preferably the 1gb RAM/120GB version in blue, linux is fine), I am in the UK and did have it saved in my amazon account for £199, only to go back today and find they have increased the price. So, i'm looking for the best deal available if anyone see's any priced at less than £200 could you post here and let me/everyone know.

I have been on here over the last few weeks, and read lots of reviews on the AAO im just hoping it lives up to expectations!

I'm looking for the 8GB SSD version with Linux, but in the US. I should have jumped at the $249 price point from NewEgg last week, but I thought it might end up lower than that in the next couple of weeks. Anybody have any info?

Yeah, Currys is the best I've found. Online it's just the blue one, but in my local store they've got the white one. Online they've got the 150 AW for £249, which it says has 1GB and 160GB, but running Linpus. I thought AW was W for Windows.
I'm wanting the white One, 120GB is fine and I can upgrade the RAM for a tenner. I'll put Windows on too.
