Did you condition the battery properly? Usually, you are asked to run the battery right down to '0' capacity, then recharge it overnight (12 hours or so). To get the full capacity of the cells, you should do this two or three times.
Of course, you may just have a bad battery, but I expect the seller will ask you to go through this process before he admits there is a problem with the product.

I don't think it's the conditioning process. I can't even run the battery down to zero because the computer loses power around 35%.

I thought that fully discharging Li-ion batteries was harmful to their lifespan. Do instructions that come with some laptop batteries say to do this?

Usually they do, although I did not see anything with my acer one. However with pretty much ever electronic device I have bought I have been told to 'cycle' the battery a few times. That means running the battery down to the point where your device shuts down (which may not actually be '0', but its pretty close) and then giving it a good, long charge (i.e. overnight). With older types of batteries (NiMH) you are suppossed to do this on a regular basis due to memory effects. With Li-ion you only need to do it in the beginning. I have heard that you should never cycle a Li-ion battery and if you let it run down below 40% it will be damaged, but that does not make sense to me and it certainly has not been my experience.
Besides, if your battery is already giving you problems, what do you have to lose?

I'm tempted to pick up one of these batteries too now. The 3 cell that I'm using just isn't enough.

But maybe i should wait because looking @ the 6600mah battery that he's selling for the EEEPC its only about $45 vs $65 for the A1 battery. This prob means the price will drop to $45 in not too long.

yup, i'm gonna wait until after new years to see if any new battery options appear or perhaps just for the pricing to come down a bit.

I just went ahead and bought this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0098349632

I had a 10% off coupon for eBay and paid about $76 USD for it. What scares me is that its coming from Hong Kong.. (the issue with those fake cell phone batteries exploding a couple years ago...)

The "Battery University" website (http://www.batteryuniversity.com/) pretty much agrees with you: Cycle your Li-Ion battery a few times at first, then charge it at your convenience. If you have to store them for prolonged periods, 40% charge is ideal......Jake
