    Hi
My stepson's Aspire Ones HDD has just failed, he didn't make any recovery discs:mad:
I was going to replace the HDD and was thinking of putting Linux on it, I have no experience of Linux and wondered what anyone would recommend. We have no Windows discs. He basically uses it to surf the net and emails, he does watch NetFlix on it, would there be any issues with doing that?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Caz

Didn't the Aspire One come with Windows 7 Home? If so, unless you want to switch to Linux, you can simply download the Windows 7 OS as an ISO file and use the product key that came with your stepson's netbook. Nothing improper or illegal in doing so. You will need an external DVD, but it's certainly doable. Here is a link how to do it: http://www.pcworld.com/article/248995/how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc.html

Here's a couple of links to look at regarding running netflix on "ubuntu" linux UBUNTU can be run off a cd if you don't want to install it without trying it out first. http://lifehacker.com/5963726/netfl...untu-in-the-form-of-an-unofficial-desktop-app http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2013/01/how-to-watch-lovefilm-redbox-instant-or-netflix-on-ubuntu http://www.jeremymorgan.com/tutorials/linux/how-to-netflix-ubuntu-linux/ http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/nativeish-netflix You can ALSO look at this youtube video [ame]

    Hi Nestone50,
Thanks for the reply, I didn't know that was an option, will probably go with that, as he lives 40 miles away and not sure what issues we might get with running Linux. Do fancy having a go with Linux, but think it would be better on something I am using.

Thanks for this, will probably do what Nestone50 suggested, but thinking of putting Linux on a laptop that doesn't get used at the moment to try it out.
