I have an AA1 with XP SP3 and 120G. I have have both Vista and XP on it. I have noticved the following:

XP uses 69% of Ram sitting on an Idle Desktop
Vista uses 77% ram doing the same.
Both have MSN Live Messenger, Skype and Pidgin autoloading with windows. (As well as other stuff)
Vista seems only a little slower when using applications and performing tasks. (This is measured by my experience and "feeling": I.E. read opinion based on experience)
I have turned off UAC and removed all language packs except English from my Vista Install.

    What I like about XP:
-The Google Desktop Toolbar (more than vista sidebar, resizing)
-More programs are compatible on install / With Vista I must adjust prioperties of some installers and applications to run with XP compatibility, an annoying additional step.

    What I like about Vista:
-I find the Inferface to be much more aesthetical (read: Eyecandy) the Icons, and general "Skin" of the OS is nicer in my opinion.
-I can see every network device on my network. I can see every media player library, every UPNP, every media server, NAS etc..etc..
-With Networking Vista is a Hands Down Winner.

And you are still not convinced... MEDIA CENTER, MEDIA CENTER, and MEDIA CENTER (included in Home Premium and some other Vista Version).. although i wont be recording any TV on it.. i still consider it the BEST front end for Media Player.

I am impressed with the AA1's ability to run Vista, I have Aero enabled and sometime it seems more responsive than my 2.5GHZ-DC/4G Ram Desktop  (Acer Aspire AX1200)
Must be the power to weight ratio :)

I have always liked my XP. Haven't tried Linpus Lite on my Acer, so I can't say much about it, but I do like Linux as well. My EeePC had it on it and I did like it a lot.

Since my Acer came with XP I'm keeping it on here, I got it running well so I'm happy. Plus I paid for the license.

    Xp for me :)

I'm actually pretty happy with my Linpus; I've got the standard xfce desktop and it's taken me a while to get it how I like it...

That said, I'm now considering converting to Ubuntu or Mandriva because I'm starting to get frustrated with the amount of things I want to install that are built off Fedora 9 or later; since Linpus is built off Fedora 8, these things aren't compatible...Examples: Amazon mp3 downloader, BBC iPlayer, or even the rtmpdump part of get_iplayer...

In general, I'm worried about forward compatibility of the Linpus system, as one of the posters above implied; we are completely dependent on Acer to get updates.

I'm running XP Home only because the other 5 computers in my house are running XP home. It works fine for what I need it for. The only beef I have with Windows in general is its memory management, Mac is much better in that aspect.

    Windows 7

I have used Ubuntu. XP, and Vista on my other computers and W7 is the best of the bunch. It's fast, everything works, it looks good, and I especially like the new taskbar.

I have had problems with Ubuntu and EeeBuntu. I couldn't get wireless working on any of them. A weird thing that I found out - Ubuntu, Eeebuntu and Linpus OS's are slow. :O I really like Windows 7 but I'm going to go for it after the final version is out. Currently I have Windows XP Home SP3 and no problems! Everything works and is fast! :D

Just an update...I took the plunge yesterday and installed Ubuntu. Happy with it so far, including WiFi. It even works after suspend...Possibly something to do with the MILLIONS of updates I downloaded yesterday (took ~6 hours!).

I liked Linpus, but I'm pleased to say that Ubuntu is faster for me; probaby something to do with not having loads of broken packages lying around!

My A110X was delivered with a XP Home licese, so I reinstalled a nLite'd XP and like it because I can install additional applications, e.g. my USB DVB software that turns my A110 into a porable TV. :)
