Hi I am new to the forum.

I am also kind of new to this.

I have an Acer aspire one ZG5, 120GB Hard Drive, 1.5GB Ram and 1.6Ghz Atom processor. It’s the 8.9” model.

I was wondering if someone could recommend which release to go with? And point me to the right direction of where the tutorial resides?

Can I please be recommended the latest version for Snow Leopard is and what works on it?

Can I also be recommended a stable version such IDeneb v1.6 or v1.4 (which I have already downloaded and burnt on dvd or Kalyway perhaps? What’s better)

Which one shall I go with Leopard or Snow leopard and within each which release shall I go with?

Does anyone know if the stock Artheos drivers work now?

I do not want information on where to acquire this, I just want to know which one to go with?

tbh ive never used idebneb but it seems to get good results. I have always used ipc and iatkos. Currently on iatkos on both desktop and aao. Retail works perfectly too, so might be worth a try. but no guide for retail afaik, so its about experimenting if you go that route.
Tbh, as long as u know that its got
    GMA950
    ALC268 (can use voodoohda)
    Realtek R1000

And add those drivers from one of the discs on installl youll be ok.

    Hey Rory,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Is it possible to send me links to these three?

What are ALC268 (can use voodoohda) and Realtek R1000? And where do I get them?

The only thing I did whilst installing was: click "Customize", select only "Netbook-> Acer Aspire One A150" + "iDeneb Essential System".

And after install I extracted it and installed "DoNotSleep"and "GMA950" packages.

Thereafter I copied the folder ShutdownSound into /Library/StartupItems
I ran OSX86Tools and enable Quartz GL and finally I ran "diskutil repairPermissions /" in Terminal.

    So when you say:

Have I covered this? Sorry I'm a Windows and Ubuntu linux user. The only other time I have carried out a Leopard install was on my AMD Phenom desktop so you know AMD architecture and not the right chipset made me give up after a couple weeks!

Well at least this time more things are working.. Just need to get everything perfect! :D

the ALC268 is the sound hardware. the voodoohda.kext (kernel extension) is the equivalent to a sound driver in windows. voodoohda.kext works on numerous different computers.

The REALTEK 1000 is the ethernet hardware. The GMA950 is the video card. the stock Atheros card is 'working' with kismac. I just bought a dell 1490 b/g card since osx detects it pretty well. and when i update, i don't have to worry about it not working.

when i got started with osx86, i wrote down all my hardware of my aao. i googled to see if i needed additional kexts if a particular hardware isnt supported natively (like the sound card). i started my installation with ideneb 10.5.6. i didnt' check the 'asipire a150'. instead, i opened up all options. i installed the kext/fixes that matched my hardware, and i did trial and error until i get passed the kernel panics lol (blue screen of death equivalent)

keep at it. its fun to have osx on a pc :D

    Hey yohko101,

Thank you for your reply, is it possible to direct me to where these links are? Where do I get ALC268 and the Voodoohda.kext for my sound card?

I've installed GMA950 so that's working okay... Is there a tutorial of how to use KisMac? I want to try and get the stock one working before I invest in buying another one lol :). What do you mean when you update you have nothing to worry about? Does that mean if I use Kismac and get it working, I'll have to set up KisMac again when I do an Apple update?

Do you know where I can get the REALTEK 1000 from?

Am I asking questions that are too obvious? As I'm fairly new to this I don't know a lot on Mac modification :?

i personally dont use kismac because of the amount of work to get it running. there was a subject in the forum regarding it.

if you google for voodoohda, you'll see a page called voodoo project. they are the developers. as for the ethernet card, theres also a subject with it and they posted the link for it.

as for updates, sometimes they 'break' your installation. for example, you get your video card to work in 1024x600 in 10.5.6. then you updated to 10.5.8. high chances that its going to go back to 800x600, or a blank gray/blue screen. so in a way, you'll have to know to fix these kinds of things :D
