of the two versions hardy and intrepid, which one is the easier version to install with an upto date disk ?

I mean in terms of the hardware supported out of the box, and not relying on additional workarounds or downloads

I tried to dual boot my AAO with linpus and intrepid, but I found that skype doesn't work under ubuntu, complaining about the audio, even though the logon noises are generated when starting intrepid

its a pain to dual boot when I really want a fully functional ubuntu with skype, then I can ditch linpus

You can try the Ubuntu Netbook Remix which you can find here:

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR

I'm using the 9.04 Jaunty-live one.. not sure if that works with Skype but it's got the networking working and sound and most other things.

I'm looking at trying out Jaunty on my wife's A110L (8GB SSD, 512MB RAM) but would prefer to install to a USB stick first while I check everything out and make sure everything work. What's the easiest way to do an install to USB? unetbootin to create a Live USB stick or boot a Live CD and tell it to install to USB?

Is there a web site explaining exactly what needs doing to Jaunty to get everything (wifi, SD slots, fan, etc.) working on an AAO?

if you want a ubuntu out of box fully fonctionnaly. Linux4one is the solution.
it is a ubuntu 8.04 with netbook remix interface and a kernel optmised for the AAO

Jaunty UNR still needs some tweaks to get working, actually.

Are you sure everything's working? Wireless on suspend, both card readers, the wifi led?

From what I've read here, here and here, you still need to blacklist acer_wmi and wireless in general is still shaky from this bug.

    Maybe I'm missing something?

Blacklisted acer_wmi module, and wireless up and running.
Installed linux-backports-modules and the traffic LED is up and running.

its the only thing to do...

Jango, how would I go about doing that? I have the AOA110-AB with 1Gb ram and a 16Gb SD. I just installed UNR but no wifi. Without the proprietory driver enabled, right clicking on the network icon at the top of the screen shows Enable Networking ticked, and Enable Wireless unticked and greyed out. Enabling the proprietory driver via Administration/Hardware Drivers makes even the greyed out wireless entry disappear altogether.
