I specifically bought my a: Acer-Aspire One Netbook / AMD C-Series Processor / 11.6" Display / 2GB Memory-Espresso Black to run linux , I suppose a dual boot would be ok , Ive had problems running Ubuntu on 64 bit in the past , my main reason for having is to play with droid roms and apks , I also have an Acer Iconia A500 tab that I mess with , but on my Windows mach its kind of a drag to write to and Linux is much easier for this, just wanted more portability , anyway could some one tell which Linux distro seems to work the best on the aspires?

I recommend using Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04. Works great on my AOD257

well a 24 hour result isnt what I wanted , it didnt install correctly as I thought , so back to the drawing boards , it didd run good for awhile , however it froze too much and for some reason you couldnt find the key to shutdown , it just disappeared?

Anyway ,its off to debian Wheezy now , we'll see how that runs!!

I run Slackware for two weeks now on my AAOd257 and I am very pleased. With minimal tweaking everything is working as I expected. Well, for me Slackware rocks.

Linux Mint, installs easily on Aspire One, everything works first time, no fiddling around with config files.

    +1 for Peppermint

Much lighter than Ubuntu or Mint .. but based on Ubuntu, so has easy access to all the Ubuntu software and PPA's

Tutorial for its installation and tweking here:

Though as pointed out above, Peppermint 3 is due for release some time around the end of this month, so it may be best to wait.

    Linux Mint 13

On my A110 with 1,5GB RAM and 64GB SSD Linux Mint is perfect ;)

No fuzzing about to get Java to work, codecs or flash. Everything works out of the box, also suspend when closing lid, wifi, etc etc. No issues at all!

    And performance is great!

I had an acer aspire one netbook 532 model with intel atom cpu and 1gb ram with a 250gb 5400rpm hdd, I installed linux mint 14 nadia 32 bit and it ran perfectly. I do not think those model netbooks can readily handle 64 bit version of any os platform. I recently replaced it with an acer aspire s3-391 ultrabook, that was able to handle linux mint 15 olivia 64bit, this one has far better performance specs and is running smoothly I must say.

Professionally, I've been supporting/using Linux systems running RHEL. So I use CentOS, since that uses the Red Hat kernel.

I had some wireless card issues with CentOS 5. Nothing I couldn't work through. But CentOS 6 behaved flawlessly on the Aspire right out of the box.

It's not Linux, but I've another Aspire with Solaris installed. That works better than I thought it would, Solaris being so picky about hardware. The Aspire makes a good little Suntop.
