Hopefully we beta testers will get a discount on the release version. Microsoft has been known to do it before!

Anyway, with the closed release of build 7025 it's been revealed that Windows 7 will come in the same variations as Vista did: Starter (for emerging markets only), Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultra.

Assuming the same price points, if you're considering buying Windows 7 which version will you install on your Aspire One?

It will depend on what features they decide to put in each one. Or more importantly which the leave out of which.

I'll most likely go with home premium. Hopefully it will take less space than the beta, since I only have the 8GB SSD.

I bought Vista Ultimate for my home PC (in the US so less than half the price). If I don't get a free upgrade I'll be BUYING nothing for my AAO.

The problem for AAO users is: what features will you use that you can't already get in XP?? I'm currently running Win7, but would I pay £100 for it over XP - NO! Maybe if I had an 11" netbook @ £400.....

Damn - given inside information away..... Most of you are probably wondering what will follow the 10" netbook

Agreed...we deserve something, putting up with bugs, and essentially assisting MS in the development of something that will add millions into their already bloated coffers...they need to pony up and award us pioneers for our diligent hard work and suffering...

I guess they will look at it like "We didn't make you use it, you signed up for it!" In which case, they are right...still, though...

The more expensive the windows 7 is, the better. I'll put the best one on AAO.

At the expense of sounding like a wet blanket, did you guys steal your Aspire Ones too? What makes software different from hardware that you feel justified in stealing it just because it's easy?

Sarcastic responses don't apply. I really want to hear your justification (unless you indeed stole your AAO from someone).

See the part of my response above regarding MS's already bloated coffers. Bill Gates is like a trillionaire, or something. If they were that worried about it, it wouldn't be available on Google, so...

I don't feel guilty at all for cracking the occasional MS program. Until they start paying me to use their software (or maybe remove the activation requirement on stuff they don't support like Win98) that will probably continue to be the case. I guess it's a Robin Hood type deal. Steal from the rich, and all that...

My $.02...look down on me if you want, I won't lose any sleep over it...

PS: I stole my One from your sister...  Sorry, I'm just joking...

Acer's not a charity, they've got high profits too. You're telling me that if you had the chance to walk into one of their warehouses and swipe an AAO you'd do it?

If you photocopied a book, copied some text from website, or used a picture from google image without pre-authorization, how would you feel? There's no difference in "stealing" windows and stealing text from a book.

I see. You are entitled to steal their stuff because they are succesful

Win 98 has never required activation.

So you give the stuff to others and do not keep it for yourself ?

As for the main topic: I will buy ultimate for my main pc.

If you work for a charity, you'll know that you need to "Cheat, lie and steal". Also in education department, instead of buying a piece of software which a student is only going to use for at most a year, a student will most likely "steal" them instead of letting $500 going down the drain. Who wouldn't want $500 more in their wallet?

actually photocopying whole books is the norm in many 'less developed' places. I can go into my library and literally give the lad behind the desk a book and ask him to photocopy it for me, ahd he'll smile and put it onto the pile of other books people have asked to be photocopied.

people quite literally don't give a s**t about copyrights when earning over $3 an hour is considered a decent wage, people have more important things to pay for.

Not saying it's right or justified or moral, it's just the truth.

I think there will be a netbook verion, a home version, a professional version and an enterprise version. Probably more but this i think is the bare minimum we'll see.

The only versions we'll actually see on the shelf in a box will be home and professional. The netbook version will OEM only, so will only come on netboooks, and the enterprise version will only be available on spcial licence to big corporations, like it is now.

I also seriously doubt it'll be called Windows 7 Netbook Edition, more likely something like Windws 7 Mobile Edition.

This Mobile Edition will not be sold just on netbooks, but also low end notebooks, with Home Edition for the premium laptops and desktops. Perhaps some of these 'nettop' computers will see Mobile Edition too, simply to keep costs down, since they're nothing more than a repackaged netbook without a screen in some cases...

So the version i'd buy? well I hope to buy the Mobile Edition, on a new 12 inch ion based dual core atom Aspire One as a replacement for my current Aspire one...

But i'm not brand loyal so i'll go with what ever manufacturer offers this to me first in a good looking package!

The first and best option for your home must be Home Premium, you must think that benefits on ultimate is adding all business and home professional features.
    Regards.

Buy or not is a personal decision, we are free to buy or not. Personaly I prefer GNU or OpenSource software but developers have they rights to spend they jobs.
