I am trying to browse the file structure in File Manager and it does not let me see anything other than \mnt and sub directories

I am in advanced mode and yet when I hit the 'up' arrow to go to root it simply shuts down the window as if its crashed???

I can see root in the terminal ok, just not in the Thunar file manager

    Help!

I've not been able to replicate your problem there - I arrow up to root just fine. Here are a few methods you could try: ctrl-t to get the tree view open, and browse through the file system section. Enter / in the bar and hit return.

Seems to crash when I hit ctrl + t, very strange.

Is ok if I cut and paste a path in though e g /usr/, but when I delete the line back to root to manually type it crashes :-(
