Greetings all, first timer here. Things move so quick in the tech world there is never a perfect time to buy something. For $350 the Aspire One I bought is near perfection. Seriously. I've been eyeballing netbooks for 2 months or so. On many different occasions I've had an Eee of varying models in a shopping cart from Amazon to Newegg. Something always held me back. I made a trip to a Micro Center to finally get a hands on appraisal of these things and I was very impressed with all they had to offer.

So, why did I buy it? $350. Bottom line the best computer purchase I have EVER made. If nothing else this is a well ventilated external hard drive. If nothing else this is an excellent word/spreadsheet processor. If nothing else this is superb internet machine. If nothing else this is a, well you get the point. Point is, if all parts of the whole work as intended you have an exceptional computer. If your WiFi fails all is not lost. This is a viable machine even not hooked to the web. For $350 you can't come close to the dollar for dollar utility of the Aspire One compared to anything else. As long as it holds up this will be my 3 year old daughter's first computer in 2 years.

The Aspire One is what a laptop is supposed to be. Light, portable, functional, cost effective. It's taken the manufacturers about 10 years to get it right and they finally did. Couldn't be happier.

Now...where's that program to to quiet this fan down

    LOL.

I struggled with the same decision. Asus EEEPC or Acer Aspire One.

I have great respect for the Aspire One. Its a fine product and well worth the money.

But I went with the Asus EEEPC 901. I'm typing this while it rests on my tummy and I could not be happier. Its exactly as I imagined it would be. I can now do my work while rested horizontally rather than sitting vertically. The main reason I bought it was because I was sitting way too long was it was killing my back and wrecking my kidneys.

But rest assured I came within inches of buying an all black Asipre One. They are both great devices.

Mission, I don't understand. Wouldn't the AA1 likewise rest comfortably on your tummy :?: There must be another reason why you chose the Eee over the AA1.

i fell in love with the eeepc in a way i never did with the aspire one.

i cannot explain it but i believe the premium i paid for the eeepc 901 was well worth it considering how much use its going to see. i would have loved a cheaper aspire one with an hd so i could have played around with different OSes more easily but that's my only disappointment.

Overall I look forward to coming home and laying on the comfortable bed with the laptop on my tummy while surfing away. Its a feeling of pure contentment and peace which no amount of money spent on vacationing can buy.

I think both the Aspire One and 901 are great laptops.
