I have been able to reach download speeds at a cafe hotspot of up to 178KB/s on a 56Mbit connection. Although I am pleased with this connection rated for a 'excellent' signal connection my question is -- am I getting the maximum possible download speeds?

I have read of connections of as high as 130Mbit and wondering what kind of download speeds a person gets at that level?

    What are other people getting?

Footnote: I have not upgraded any drivers or bios.

My home router puts out either 54mb/s wi-fi or 100 mb/s ethernet, but that's just the hardware "hose" between it and the computer's card. The "faucet" is set by the ISP - in my case advertised 7 mb/s and actual 5.8 mb/s according to online test sites (like Ookla). The same applies to your hotspot.
