Ok, i bought my D250 back in October and it came with XP Home and is still running the same XP Home (but with all the Acer stuff + Mcaffee removed). I immediatly started downloading programs, and noticed a slow-ish download speed (30-50kb/s). I searched on here and voila, i find a solution to turn off power saving mode (in the advanced driver options). My download speeds immediately went up to 100-120kb/s and I was happy...I thought it was a bit slow still but thought it may just be a restriction of the chip. It wasn't until i installed Ubuntu 9.10, and was achieving constant download speeds of more than 300kb/s on that, that i realised something was up. I use XP much more than Ubuntu (I only Ubuntu for some cross-platform developing) so obviously i cannot boot into Ubuntu just to download a big file and then boot back again. Does anyone know how I can fix the XP wifi speed or why it is happening? My D250 is equipped with the 5007EG. Knowing that it's possible to get speeds up to 3x as fast and not being able to is really annoying me. My drivers are the latest for my card and i am running the latest 1.25 bios(I have tried 1.06, 1.07, 1.21 and the current 1.25) The issue doesn't change whether AC is plugged in or not. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Angus EDIT: XP reports to be connected at a speed of 54.0mbps to the access point so I am assuming that the wifi adaptor is in 'G' mode by default? EDIT2: Filezilla (seems to be the only thing) is downloading at >300kb/s....so it's not a driver problem, probably a hidden setting?
