Sorry if this is redundant... I've done some searching and haven't found any posts that go into this.

How the heck do I get the switch up front to turn off wifi? I've tried holding it to the right and it does nothing. Haven't been able to find anything about this anywhere, including Acer's support site. Of course I can just disconnect from the network but that doesn't save any battery life as long as wifi is active...

Is this just an issue with systems running XP?

I should add that while I'm a "newbie" to this board, I've been around since the early 80s and was service manager for a local VAR. If I can't figure out what the deal is, I'm sure there are others out there also.

Other than this one little issue, I Love my Aspire. It is the best of both worlds... I have a Sony UMPC that would be great if it wasn't for the keyboard and a NEC MobilePro 780 that I still use every day but is limited in what it can run. After I added the "bookcover" sleeve from ebay, my Aspire is no more hassle to take with me than a hardcover book. Everywhere I use it, there are people that come over wanting to see it. :D

Switch works perfect with WindowsXP. There are two things you can check:

    1. Relevant driver for your Wi-Fi card. I use Intel 5300 card and driver switching everything right. LED present when ON, LED off when card is off...
    2. Launch Manager - software which will show you when Wi-Fi card (and other stuff) operates by displaying small icon on LCD...

    Thanks for the reply.

Not sure what the problem was... Guess it just goes to show that you should never assume anything. I went into device manager and looked at the advanced properties of the network card. Turned the "radio" off for a while. Shut down and let it sit for a while. Powered back up and went in and turned it back on. The switch seems to be working now. (knocking on wood)

FYI I have the AAO with the 3G from ATT/Radio Shack. My front switch turn on and off, by sliding left.

    Hi there,

I lost the pop-up icon when switching wireless or bluetooth on/off. Do you know how to bring that feature back?

In the past, if I had moved the wireless switch slightly to the right I wolud get a small white box with wireless icon inside it or when turning it off the same but with red circle and a cross line (like, to announce me that it is turned off). The same was with the bluetooth button, but not anymore.

Did I uninstall anything or changed the theme of Windows and that caused that error?

    Thank you

Check if you have Launch Manager installed and running...

I didn't have it and now I have it installed and in system tray as well. The Fn shortcuts were working anyway and there is still not white box pop-ups when I disable/enable bluetooth or wireless. Only a sound can be heard...
