So, I've had my AAO 751H since June, and really enjoy it. My version has 2GB RAM, 250 GB HD, and came preloaded with Win Vista. Obviously, that build is a mess on the little netbook, so I went to the Win 7 RC. Everything works fine, and I haven't had any problems with the computer since then. But, the RC will be expiring soon. So, my question to the brain trust...

Should I purchase Win 7 or downgrade to XP (have an unused license to XP right now)? Is there any difference in performance or stability? Anyone tried both and decided one way or another on PERFORMANCE? Obviously, Win 7 has different features than XP, for which I am cognizant.

    Thanks for any advice!

I installed W7 Home Premium on mine and I'm delighted with it.

I've never had a freezing problem so there is that.

Just make sure you install all the latest drivers and you should be happy with the performance.

I am a big fan of WinXP, as I find them light and stable for my everyday use. My AO751h came preloaded with WinXP Home, which I replaced with WinXP Pro, like all my other machines. With WinXP Pro the netbook was really fast and convenient.

Unfortunately, as you may already read, 751h's weak point is the combination of the CPU and the GPU. Whlle I did my best to finetune my system with WinXP, it seemed that support for the GPU was almost over for WinXP, while Win7 had more updated and finetuned drivers for the specific GPU (GMA500)... So, and because I usually watch clips on my netbook from Youtube and other sources, I decided to install Win7.

What I don't like about Win7 is the bloated graphics environment, so I stripped down almost all visual effects, turned off Aero (yes, it's supported by the GPU but it's too much burden for the netbooks) and right now it works like a charm! I customized the graphics environment so that now Win7 looks more WinXP and plus I get the full and updated support for the GPU, so I am really pleased right now.

Mine came wih XP and while I liked how it ran on this system I waisted no time upgrading to win 7 since thats what I use on all my other machines. I really love how well win 7 runs on this system so here is another vote for win 7.
