Has anyone else seen all the talk in the last few days about Windows 7 corrupting laptop batteries? It's pretty scary. As a result, I wiped Windows 7 Starter off my new Aspire One 532h and put Ubuntu 9.10 Linux on it. There are reports all over the net on major computer-related websites and blogs about an issue some laptop owners are having where Windows 7 corrupts the embeddded EEPROM in laptop batteries, rendering them unable to be charged.

According to a MS Technet thread, this has been an issue dating back to the release of the Release Candidate last summer and continuing on today. Microsoft recently released a statement about the issue saying it was investigating the problem.

Here's where I heard about it:

There is mention of it all over the place in the last few days. I suppose the recent news is because Microsoft finally acknowledged that there is a problem.

I'm curious to know if anyone with an Aspire One has had issues with battery life. Considering the high cost of new batteries, this could be a crucial issue if our batteries are among those affected.
