    Hi Everyone,
    Hope someone can help me.
I have an Acer one 722 netbook which has Windows 7 64bit operating system installed.
I have a software program ,Pcdj kj Vrm ,that works fine on Windows xp but is not supported by Windows 7 and the software manufacturer wants more money to upgrade to a newer version.
Yes I have tried the windows compatibility program which unfortunately does not work and the program is not listed on the microsoft site.
I have also contacted the software company who say they do not support windows 7 on this version of software.

So having Shrunk & partitioned my hard disk ,I wish to dual boot and install windows xp from an external cd drive.
System boots to Usb external cd drive & installation begins ,however so far into the installation, system halts & blue screen of death and a message regarding hard disk driver problem.
Visited the Acer site ,only to be told that they do not support windows xp for this model & no drivers are available.
Apart from spending more money ,can anyone help.

You might need to take your HDD out of AHCI mode in the BIOS settings. Also what was the 0x00000000 code on the BSOD? How big is the partition you made for WinXP?

I wouldn't install XP seperately for dualboot, instead I'd download Microsoft Virtual PC/Windows XP mode (if you are running Win 7 Pro, Ultimate or Business). If you are running Win7 Home Premium, I'd get VirtualBox or VMWare Player, and make a clean XP installation into a virtual machine. You won't need to reboot to run you old software app, and you can even get it to be seamless windowed onto your Win7 desktop, íncluding copy/pasting output from/to Win7 programs.

The only time I would go through installing a dualboot for XP onto a Win7 machine, would be for games or similar programs that is best run natively.

Okay, I have now changed bios setting to ide & have installed xp on a 60 gig partition no problem.
Need to install some additional drivers but seems okay.
My next task is to find a way to also boot to my already installed windows 7.
    Help

Try EasyBCD. It's a free app for configuring Win7 and Vista bootloaders and can be used within Windows to create a dual-boot xp/7/vista system.
