I installed it fine from a 8GB Usb drive.

Just make you sure that the drive is formated in NTFS and with the /nt60 bootsect setting.

Also, a Fresh install take about 7~10 GB, maybe it dont have enough space to make the temporal folders and such.

I also get the error at the end of the installation process.

My A110L has upgraded RAM to 1.5 GB.

I also tried to set up a Sun Virtualbox with 512 MB of RAM and exactly 7.0 GB HDD.
The Setup worked flawlessly, as did everything else after installation.

Somehow i dont want to believe its the SSDs size. Once (I tried like five times) i got an error prior to installation that said something like "The minimum HDD size has to be 5534 MB".

    EDITS:

I checked the SSD after failed installation, it said 0.3 GB free of 7.3 GB total.
Damn it the iso has barely 2.4 GB!

I tried to install Windows 7 Build 7000.something

I installed the standard DVD on my 8gb SSD, it warns you that you need at least 9gb on install, but you can simply OK that.

Once installed, you can disable the page file, and the hiberfil.sys and get about 2.5gb remaining.

I am however having issues installing Office 2007 on it.

I'm also the getting the error at the end of the install. Did any of you experiencing the problem come to a conclusion? I'm really anxious to get Windows 7 installed

the error is because the 8gb SSD is not big enough to store the install. It clearly states it will need 9.5GB to install. I tried to go ahead anyway cause I couldn't get vlite to work last night, and I woke this morning to that error. I vlited the ISO down to about 1.5GB, installed it off an 8GB USB stick. No error, but 4 hours later it's STILL not finished... it's up to 'Setting up personalized settings...'. I'm wondering if this is because the SSD has been formatted with NTFS. I hope there's a way to convert it to FAT32 once it's up and running, otherwise I'll have to do this all again

to answer my own question: yes, NTFS install disk results in an NTFS source disk (common sense), and no, conversion from NTFS to FAT32 is not possible, only the other way (damn). Time to reinstall.

I've tried the install server times (6+) with different settings, vlited etc. getting the same error every time. Have you successfully got it?

I'm sorry if I'm sound a bit dumb here I'm yet to grasp the cause of the problem.

Not sure what your problem could be. I have gone through the install twice with the following vlite .ini. It was just a quick run through to remove the obvious (most of the saving is from removing all languages except English). Resulted in a 1.57GB installer, and after installation on the 8GB SSD I had approximately 900MB remaining. Removed page file and hibernation and freed up just over 3GB. However I'm still stuck with an NTFS format SSD and the performance is dire.

Damn, I knew there was something wrong with my 8GB AAO. So it was the amount of available space after all. That's why I wasn't able to do a clean install. Anyway, I successfully installed Windows 7 on my other laptop (with an HDD) using the bootable USB flash drive I made for the AAO. It worked perfectly.

Hmm. I vlited the ISO down to 1.25 GB's. I still get the error during the last stages of the install. I'm getting pretty desperate here as I really need to get an OS onto my Acer. I'm sure its possible because I know a dozen of people that have put Vlited installations of Win7 on the 8GB SSD model.

is that true? so even after using vLite on the Windows 7 ISO, you still can't get past the "completing installation" part?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my AAO. I used vLite to shrink the install, but it has been sitting at completing installation for an hour now. Any ideas?

Please read the last post, the installation from vLite version is not the problem but is our little disk space 8GB SSD.
The only tweak that I have found to resolve this issue is repair and compress. You'll find more info in forum or visit this page:

I had the issue with the "setup cannot configure your hardware" message when I attempted the first install (AA1 with 8GB SSD, 1.5 GB RAM), so I used vLite to remove all of the extra languages, Media Center, etc.. from the install and then the install worked fine.

Once I had it installed I disabled hibernate and system restore, added the EWF filter and other tweaks from some of the other posts in this forum, and Windows 7 works really well. I have around 4GB of free space on the SSD and the system is very responsive.

One recommendation is to use the excellent AA1 Backup at http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/12/acer-aspire-one-aa1backup.html to backup your current OS before installing Win 7. I had a an Ubuntu install that I got to work really well on the AA1 and the AA1 Backup worked great for restoring my system after my initial failed Win 7 install. I have used it for both the Ubuntu and Win 7 to backup and restore successfully.
