I know next to nothing when it comes to linux. I don't even know that much about windows, as I primarily use a mac. On the other hand when installing Windows 7 on my netbook, I know the usb key had to be NTFS and needed a Windows bootloader that was created from the within the Windows iso. I would also double check to see if Windows 7 can be installed on the 8GB SSD. 8GB seems like a little.

Okay, are you saying that you put the files onto an SD card, and put the card into the card reader of your One and tried to boot from it? Or it's a SSD, and you installed it into your One's case and it won't boot?

If it's the first case, the problem is that you can't boot from the card readers. You have to use a USB flash (thumb) drive. The BIOS doesn't know the card readers are there, they are controlled with drivers from within the OS. Make a bootable USB drive, and try it again.

If it's the second case, I have no idea...

So you've removed the internal SSD ("hard drive") from your machine, and you're trying to install W7 onto it, and then reinstall it into your machine?

Not sure if 8 G will be big enough...I mean, W7 will fit onto it, but that's about it. W7 with around a 1.5 G of software installed was 9 ish G of space on my HDD...

Still not entirely sure what you are trying to do...

If you are trying to use an SD card, like would go in a digital camera, you cannot boot from those to install software/OS's. It just will not happen. So, answer me one question to straighten me out-- Did you disassemble your One to do this procedure?

Okay, now that I know exactly what is going down, the problem is that it is not as simple as just copying the files onto the USB drive, and selecting "Boot from USB HDD" in the BIOS.

You have to make the USB bootable. There are several different ways to do it, but I will link you to one that is Win 7 specific: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=9802

Follow that guide, and that should get you running. If not, try googling "bootable USB", and try a different technique. I tried a million, and just gave up and bought an external DVD drive. Best money I ever spent. Now I have everything installed I could ever want, and my programs that I have downloaded are on CDs (read: cheaper than a bunch of thumb drives). Just food for thought...

Anyway, give that tutorial a run, and hopefully you'll have more success than I did...post back either way and let us know how it goes...7 is worth the trouble...IMHO...
