Looking at Technet, there appears to be several different versions of Windows 7 some of which are not sold in advanced western countries like W7 Basic. There was supposed to be a specific version for netbooks. Has anybody tried it and how did they get on? Much of the forum refers to W7Betas, not the current so called bug free versions

    Hi
I run a version of Win 7 Home Premium on my 8GB SSD Aspire and find it more than acceptable. To explain the word "version", I used Vlite to reduce the footprint of Win 7 and also carried out some mods once I had it installed . My version takes up 6.15 GB of the SSD. I also use FlashFire (mentioned on many posts in the Forum) and it does speed the application up as without it even my version was still slow. Had no problem with drivers as Win 7 either found them or ran what was there.

I initially installed the full version , it told me my disc space was not sufficent but seemed to install anyway. I say that but it was so slow it was unusable.

If you do try to install it on the SSD be aware that you may think that it has hung or is not working but note it does take a considerable amount of time to install. Like go down the pub for a couple of hours.

Not seen anything about a specific version for Netbooks but if you use an HDD version it will install and run much the same as any HDD computer.

I initially had Linpus and I rather enjoyed that and its peculuarities, I then moved to XP and though I am currently running Win 7 I feel that XP is more suited to the SSD Aspire and am still considering going back to XP.

Hope my comments are of some use.

    Best wishes

Hi I put 7 ultimate on my AA0. I have mine upgraded to 1.5gb memory and 7 works fine. The 1/2 gig memory that the AA0 came with meant that 7 was a little hesitant however it was still usable. I upgraded to 7 via usb key after following instructions on this forum.

I should also mention that I upgraded to a 80 gb HDD. My original 8gb SSD was useless.
