    Hey Guys,

    I'm a Technet Plus subscriber and picked up the retail ISO of Windows 7 last night. The good news is that I can definitely see an overall performance increase from the RC.

    The bad news is that I'm having an odd problem. When using the Aero theme, after a login (from startup or returning from standby), the screen is black, except for the task bar. I can then open something and move it over the black to "erase" it to the actual screen. (Clicking the "desktop" button in the lower right-hand corner also "erases" everything to reveal the background.) When using a non-Aero theme, the problem doesn't occur.

    I've tried both the default Windows 7 GMA500 drivers as well as the Intel Atom Technology Vista drivers - both result in the same issues.

    Any ideas?

    You can't use Aero with the current drivers as it causes this problem. I don't know if it is the hardware or drivers, but that is what I concluded after trying Aero/Non-Aero themes. Hope that helps.

    Balut,

    After searching Google for "GMA500," "Windows 7" and "black screen," I realized that it's definitely an Intel driver issue. I did come up with a band-aid solution. You can read about it in this post.

    Look for "After logging in or unlocking my AAO751h, all I see is the taskbar and blackness. I can then open a program and "erase" the screen to reveal the desktop. What's going on?"

    Hope this helps!

    Turning off Desktop Compositing fixed this issue for me.

    Goto:

    Control Panel -> System

    Click Advanced Settings

    Click the advanced tab, then click the "Settings" button in the Performance group box.

    Under the Visual Effects tab, click custom. Then Untick Desktop Composition.

    This should allow you to keep the aero theme, but also get rid of the black screens.

    SideNote: Unticking Drop Shadows and show window contents when dragging will greatly improve performance.
