I am having problem installing XP Mode on AO250-751h. I downloaded the XP mode from this link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx

However when I try to install it, it gives me a messange that it cannot be installed on the current configruation - however does not suggest anything. Here is the exact message:

"Windows Update Standalone Installer: The update is not applicable to your computer"

Did any of you experience the same issue? Thanks!

Re: Windows 7 Ultimate XP Mode Problem

 Update on the issue: From MS Video on Windows 7 site, it stated that a Intel VT Mode should be turned on in the BIOS. Since AO250 has Intel® Atom™ Processor Z520, (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=35466), it should have the Virtualization Technology Mode as per Intel's spec. However I do not see any settings in BIOS that would allow me to check or enable/disable VT Mode. Any ideas?

Microsoft claims that Windows XP Mode has been already enabled on Acer computers:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... -bios.aspx

However I checked the BIOS and do not see any options for setting the Windows XP Mode. Also I found a ComputerWorld article that suggestion that the advertised XP mode may not work on "many PCs":

    http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/ ... n_many_PCs

AO751h is set with Intel's Z520 CPU that should support Virtualization.

More details: the old version of Virtual PC 2007 is blocked by Windows 7 if you try to install it.

While yes, the Z520 processor does support Intel's virtualization technology, it clearly isn't turned on in the BIOS. Also remember that XP Mode requires a system to have 2GB of ram so hopefully you've already upgraded that from the original 1GB.

Although you may not see a setting for it, don't think you've gone blind or anything. I have seen many laptops that do not have this configurable. Notably many Sony laptops have the VT turned off in the BIOS also and give the user no way of turning it on. Unless Acer comes forward and updates the BIOS for your model, there is nothing you can do. It simply won't work.

Even then I would seriously doubt it would work at an acceptable speed. If running Windows XP is critical for you, a dual-boot system with both Win7 and WinXP would serve you much much better than holding your breath hoping for an updated BIOS just to find out how underwhelming the performance will be.

I realize that. All I want is to see performance of my prorgam that I developed for Windows Xp and did not have time to port it to Windows Vista/7. I do not have another system to test WIndows XP Mode.

Still I see that some guys found a way to update BIOS and enable VT Mode on Acer, but no 751h yet. Here is the link:

I was chatting with Acer rep today and he suggested to call Acer directly since he cannot give any advice that is over his head. I will try to call tomorrow and see what they can suggest.
