    Windows 7 (beta 6801)

I was bored so I installed the PDC beta of Windows 7 on my Acer one (120 GB, Stock still).

In case anyone else is going to try I wanted to give a quick run down of my experience so far.

I installed it from my USB drive, same way you can install Vista.
Sound, video, Webcam, touchpad and SD card drive work as is.
Wireless and LAN, you need to download the drivers separate. (LAN I used the XP ones from this site, wireless I got from windows update).

I haven't had it installed long, I'll update when I get to try it more but so far it runs faster (things respond faster) then Vista.

Now if someone could figure out how to turn on the new taskbar shown here

    Re: Windows 7 (beta 6801)

The new taskbar is only available in a newer build which has not been released yet. I also installed it on my AA1 and so far its running fine. Some standard programs are missing, but overall the experience is good so far.

The most important thing is... Does Windows 7 perform better than XP? Comparison to Vista on the AAO is not important, since everyone knows Vista is Bloatware on netbooks.

    Re: microwave icon anyone?

i got 6801 off rapidshare today...
all that does is make me laugh at the people (all 5000 on one torrent and 1500 on another) downloading from a fraction of that number of seeds (1500 and 160 respectively)
when you can just google it, pay 4 euros fifty fo a 3 day rapidshare account, and itl download at your maxmum download speed guaranteed...
    mines 6801 too... :)
i think its going on my aao tomorrow :)

Like I said. bloatware.... meaning eats up alot of space. How much of your SSD was taken by vista? XP Home is only 1.7gb of the 8gb SSD.

It took around 3GB fresh, now it's up to 6 or so. Using Raid0 SD-cards for all apps so it's cool with me :D

Yes, the new taskbar is sweet but still buggy sometimes, the aero peek is still unavailable

Also a video of boot and shutdown time.

my rating went down after it auto updaed a driver
what i thought was amazing was the fact that intel have a beta windows 7 driver out on windows update
is the lenovo s10 runing the same chipset as us? because that would explain it

what are our hardware specs including any mods? i looked through your posts, but you have not mentioned it before...
was just wondering why you got less on disk data transfer rate...

and graphiics is always changable. with vista theres a variation too, but mine has always seemed to be the top end of the variation :D

Its the 120 GB and 1 GB Ram from stock, no mods.
Well, the vista partition is only 15 GB At the end of the HD, Maybe for that is showing reduced performance.

Yes I noted the beta drivers from Intel for windows 7, good thing, I hope they got better.

On another thing, the sound playing a mp4 file with MPC with CoreAvc Codecs, doesnt work so well, the audio seems to have this skip-like noise every 5 seconds.

I tried Windows 7 as well. I love the appearance and it is a lot faster than Vista. But it's relatively unstable at the moment and it's TERRIBLE for multitasking.
