I have an Acer Aspire One AOA150 (ZG5) and I've seen people put windows 7 and 8 onto it.. but when I try I get random blue screens. Help?

BTW: Why was my first post about this deleted? What gives?

I have a AOA150 and use Windows 7 with no BSOD or freezes. I will tell you the problem you are having. I too had the same problems you describe when I first installed Windows 7 Home Premium. After agonizing over the BSOD and constant freezes I finally figured out the problem. It is the wireless card. Your Andros wireless card is the problem. While Windows 7 drivers are allegedly available, I tried them all. The wireless card is simply not compatible with Windows 7 and, I assume Windows 8. Some have replaced their wireless cards with Broadcom cards. An easier fix, and the one I selected, was to purchase a mini USB wireless dongle that are very cheap if you have a good look online. I got mine on eBay. An added bonus is they mini UBS dongle is "n" speed rated while the built in card is only "g" rated. I went into device manager and disabled the Andros card and plugged in the USB dongle. Windows 7 found drivers and I was off to the races. No more BSOD and no more freezes and disconnects. The dongle only sticks out about 1/4 inch and gets excellent reception. I'm very happy with it. In fact, I'm using it to reply to your post.

Since most but not all Aspire one netbooks have a resolution lower than 768 most apps from the new Start screen will not function. There is limit of 1024x768 to use most apps and then a limit of 1366x768(i believe that's right) to use docking.

So unless you plug an external monitor up to your AO, Windows 8 will be neutered for you..

Can only get 1024 x 768 with Windows 8, when should be getting 1366x768

    Hello,

With windows 8 on my Acer Aspire One a0751h-52Yk the wireless works fine, but the screen resolution is stuck at 1024x768, when the screen is capable of 1366x768.

In display settings the adapter is listed as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, chip type Intel Paulsbo Graphics Chip A, and the screen is listed as Generic PnP Monitor with screen refresh rate of 64 Hz.

Does anyone have any good tips for how to get the screen rez right?

    Cheers!

    Sacha

Acer did just release new drivers for alot of netbooks for Windows 8 last week. But, I just looked and your model bad_science is just to old and they didn't update the drivers for you.

The problem you are having is an incompatible display adapter driver for Windows 8. Your hardware is just to old for Intel to support it. But search around you might beable to find custom drivers for your Intel GMA 500

    Atheros (unofficial website)

Did you try the latest driver Windows 7 32bits or 64bits for the onboard Wifi card in your A150 ?
I have an Atheros AR5007EG Wifi card.
I have updated my driver (for Windows XP) last week. It's a reliable website.

I was able to install the most recent chipset drivers for Win7 on my Win8/AAO751h, you just have to install in in Win7 compatability mode. Screen resolution improved.
