Even if logged in with Admin. privileges it is not possible to change the location of some pre-installed Windows apps. Quite by chance I discovered that Win 7 has NotePad. I wanted to create a folder in /Program Files for it, and then move it there, and then create a Desktop shortcut to it. However I could not move it because of something called TrustedInstaller. I had to *copy* it to /Program Files/Notepad - which was OK. However now I need to remove / delete the original. How do I over-ride TrustInstaller - and actuially what is that? Thanks - Chris B.

The "TrustedInstaller" is a security privalege that you must overcome by setting yourself as the "owner" in the Security Tab of the files properties.

This is just the tip of the iceberg though. Moving the file and all related files (DLL's etc) will mean that you more than likely will also have to move or reassigne registry entries. You can cause a great deal of problems by doing what you're attempting. So best of luck and most of all be careful!
