    Hi,

I did the Linpus to XP chnage using the 'Definitive Guide' and it went perfectly, using an nlite'd copy of XP. It's fast and is doing just what I want.

However, one small problem is that the windows update feature does not work, either the automatic or manually started versions and I get error number 0xc80003fA when I do the manual update.

I've tride the deleteing the 'Softwaredistribution' folder with no success....does anyone have any other idea?

Anything to do with the SSD at all?

    Many thanks,

    Ken...

    Hi,

You can try to disable "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks":

Solution: Tools / Internet Options / Advanced / Security - UNCHECK "Enable
memory protection to help mitigate online attacks" option.

I don't kwow the error I had, but this trick worked for me some weeks ago (in another computer).

    Hi ramon2000,

I don't have that as an option on my IE version for some reason...I'm running XP Home if that makes any difference.

It's really annoying this as the AA1 works really well on XP otherwise...I'm surprised how fast it's working.

    Hi again,

Ii suppose you have googled "error 0xc80003fA".

Since you have deleted SoftwareDistribution, I also suppose you have read:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916258/en-us

Do you have SP2 or SP3?

If you have SP3, you can download the "redistributable" version (You must chose your language)(I think you need at least SP2):
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 1555d4f3d4

If you have SP2 or no SP, you can also download it:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

And then install it again. It is like a "soft installation without removing configuration" and sometimes it resolves issues like this.

    Hope it helps

    Regards

Another possibility is to check in control panel/admin tools/services. Automatic updates should be set to automatic and started, Background Intelligent Transfer Service set to manual and started, and Security Center set to automatic and started. I had a virus in my computer that keep shutting these off. when I finally got the new updates MS removal tool fixed it.

Thanks for your comments Jim and ramon2000!

I tried re-installing SP3 and for some strange reason, it wouldn't let me!

So, I decided to bite the bullet and do another instal from scratch....didn't take long.

Absolutely no problem now and update is working like a dream!

Many thanks for all your help.
