I installed windows vista home premium on the original aspire one with 512mb and 8GB SSD. The installation process is quite slow. It took around 1 h 30 min with all the steps required from the xp version. Also I used a vlited version without many things (the iso it's around 1GB instead of 3.5).. All the driver for xp work fine for vista and somehow it works also the microphone near the webcam. I tried this cos I think that it has a better battery management but it's so slow to boot and shut down that I'm going to remove it. When its loaded it's quite the same than xp. I've tried skype and it works quite well but it's quite hungry of memory. Maybe with 1.5GB the vista experience is not so bad. Before I'll come back to linux, I would like to see if with vista it's possible to move the pagefile.sys on the sdhc, making a link on filesystem, becouse as in xp is not possible just to configure the virtual memory on a removible drive, no matter if you use the fake hd driver. Maybe it could improve somehow the performance..

Well I too did take the plunge and installed Vista. I stripped a Vista ISO (slipstreamed SP1) down to about 2,1Gb and installed it. The installation took a wopping 4 hours!!!! The first thing I'm going todo is rip that *&#*$&#$)(#@ SSD thing out, it is just pure crap! I'm still thinking about getting a 16GB SDHC CF card and do the CF2ZIF mod, but those cards are so damn expensive. I also am thinking about trying a ipod 1.8" zif HDD I know it won't fit, but I WANT to make it fit!! if I cut enough plastic it HAS to fit :)

LOL U've a lot a patience!! in 4 hours I would have thrown all the stuffs out of the window! :D
anyway, there's no way out to move this damn pagefile.sys neither with the mklink trick, cos it works only for the directories.
It's a pity cos this light version of vista seems to work pretty well on the acer. :x

finally I installed 1GB more and now Vista is running pretty well.. I just have to create a ramdisk file and put there all the temp and stuffs that seems to suffer under the sdhc.. I'm not completely sure that the drivers are 100% ok cos the sistem sometimes there are 1 second lacks of time when the system doesn't respond completely.. for example now when I'm writing on firefox..
but in general with 1.5GB is much more usable. :)

I just moved all the trash files on the ramdisk and changed the browser from firefox 3 to opera.. I don't have anymore lacks where the system doesn't responde.. it was defenetely firefox! Now Browsing with Vista it's smooth.. I think I'll keep it..
I also tried play divx and 3dmark 2001.. divx play very good and 3dmark score was 3062 with default details and 2882 with maximum.

Disable the file cache in Firefox (set to 0MB), now firefox is also very fast.

Can someone post the drivers they used in vista for LAN and or WLAN. My Drivers don't work, the ones downloaded from here that is.
I installed Vista last night, it took about 3 hours to complete, just like XP did, but I think Vista runs way faster than XP, and I like Vista more. I also just took it apart and put it back together to check out the space available, and I'm sure an iPod drive could be squeezed in. I'm buying mine today and an extra 1GB of RAM. And all this after I only got it yesterday. I may also do the EEE touchscreen mod sometime in the future :)

Got vista up and running tonight..took about 2.5 hours to install tinyvista rev 2...of course me adding that extra 1gb ram helps alot. tweaked a few settings and installed a few things....i have to say that the little 8gb ssd that everyone keeps complaining about actually works pretty darn good on vista. i have to say that the little atom that could really does a good job, hey its no wolfdale but what can u expect for a package this small. installed origami 2.0 that i discussed in another part of the forum earlier and i have to say that it works well for what it is..just need to get that touch screen installed now. have tested the battery life with vista yet but ill post back after i have had a little while to experiment. checked the temps will realtemp because its the only software that reports correctly....idling along at about 40 celcius which is fine in my book considering how small the fan is.divx videos work perfect both fullscreen and without......hulu.com is a little choppy on 480p playback fullscreen but fine on everything else...vista aero works flawlessly....if it keeps working this well i may forgo the 1.8" hd upgrade and stick with the ssd...ill test both and report back..if you guys want me to test anything just let me know

    Loop

update....having the freezing issue just like everyone else whos running xp....has to be because of the ssd's lack of buffer is the only thing i can figure..cant wait to get my hd in and install it

    you've got Aero :(
Aero doesn't work on mine. Probably because I only have the stock 512 RAM. Now I can't wait for my extra 1GB to arrive.
And soon after that my ZIF drive will come, and I'll install Office 07 and see how that works.
Anyone else ogt Office 07 on their One?

Yup, if anyone has the WAN (vista) drivers for the AOA150-1570 that'd be great.

You can install the official (XP) WLAN drivers from Acer site. They work in Vista, but you have to install them trough Device Manager. Go to your Device Manager and you will see that there's "Ethernet Adapter" that is not working. Right click it, go to Properties and there go to Driver and click the Update Driver button. Now just browse to the folder where you unpacked the XP Wlan driver and choose the "drivers" folder from there. WLAN works just fine :).
