Hey everyone...admittingly I can say I am Computer Illiterate so please bare with me.

My wife and I both have an Acer aspire one KAV60. Today, I powered up my notebook and windows will not boot (it was just working last night).

This is the message I get when I power on.

    -Push Power button on.
    -No Microsoft or Windows display
    -Black screen with message:
    Check cable connection..!
PXE - E63: Error while initiating the NIC
PXE - M0F: Exiting Intel PXE Rom.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

My question firstly is what the heck might have happened? Is the system crashed? Secondly, since the wife's notebook is still in good shape...is there any way of copying anything from her system to boot mine? or maybe going deep in the drive and copying any files into a USB so I can do a boot from it?

The only thing that came with the notebooks were a 4g SD card, but even that I have no idea what's in it or how to check if its anything sort of a re-booting card.

Any help asap would be greatly appreciated. My warranty is out on this since (I've had it over 2 yrs now) and I know most would say why don't I take it to a PC shop here, but I have really sensitive work in there (Airport stuff and others) that I wouldn't like to jeopardize so any at all advice or help would help.

    Thanks!!!

My first suggestion would be to press F2 when you first turn on the computer to go into the Bios. The look through the pages to make sure the hard is marked as a bootable device and see if your Bios even sees your hard drive. If it sees the drive but it is not marked a bootable the use the bios control keys to make it bootable.

You can not copy select files from one computer and paste them into another to make both bootable.

If you have an external CD/DVD drive then If the above does not help then I would download Linux Mint from....
    http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=69
burn it to a DVD (as it is too big for a CD) using the free software "All Free Disc Burner" from....
    http://www.allfreevideoconverter.com/freediscburner/index.html
Then boot from the Live DVD/CD and use Linux Mint to access the hard drive and make a backup of all your documents. Because if the Bios correction doesn't work then the other things could wipe your drive and you don't want to loose your data.

Post back and I will try and help from there.

Thanks a lot for that clarification. I will try the methods you've given and see and hope one of them helps.
